Subject: Immigration Questions
My wife and I are planning on moving to Canada in a few years time and will be applying reasonably soon as this process can take at least two as far as I understand. We´re currently in Scotland. I have a few questions that hopefully someone on here will be able to answer.

I have an Advanced Diploma in Software Engineerin from a college in Glasgow and was wondering if this would give me 20 or 22 points in the qualification section of the application process? The diploma is a step above the HND certificate and I spent 4 years at college NC, HNC, HND and Advanced Diploma.

Once an application has been approved, how long do you get to actually move to Canada, I know for Australia there´s a five year window.

I´ve also read that you need to provide proof that you have enough money to support yourself for at least the first six months....at the time of applying it´s unlikely I´ll have this money, but by the time the application is accepted (roughly 2 years) I´ll definitelyhave more than the required amount saved. Is this allowed or do you have to have money available at the time of applying?

Thanks!

Stuart

I think you´ll get 20 points for education. Even if you think you´ll get 22, plan with 20 in mind.
About money, I think you can show whatever you have right now and explain you´ll have enough by the time you land, they´ll ask for proof of funds at a later stage- generally after initial assessment.
And about the time you get to move, The deadline usually is exact One year from the date you go for medicals.

We just went for our medicals today and we will get our visa with a deadline to enter exactly one year from today.

good luck

Why Canada? (in reply to: Immigration Questions)
Hi Stuart,

I saw you are from Scotland, UK. I was wondering why an scotish family want to immigrate Canada. I ask you that because I have the option to immigrate to UK o Canada. I am from Peru, business administrator and master with experience in Logistics, BPR and junior SAP. The labour market is better in Canada or havr more future do you think? Thanks for your comments or anyones comments

Why (in reply to: Immigration Questions)
We´re looking to move to Canada because we´re wanting to move away from Britain and having visited Canada a few times we really liked the lifestyle offered and more laid back way of living. We also like the idea of being closer to outdoor activites without being charged an arm and a leg for it as is the case in Scotland. Job´s wise, Scotland is pretty good and you´d probably find something fairly easy going by your experience, although more SAP jobs are based down south in England. As far as the job market in Canada, your guess is as good as mine at the moment, I´m currently looking to see what it would be like for myself to get a job over there in the IT market, but I doubt it´ll be worse than here in Scotland.

I´ve just checked on the London Visa website and according to them the average wait time for an application is just under 4 years....gulp....some wait! Looks like we better get our application in fairly soon then.

Does anyone know how quick the process would take if I were to find a job in Canada? What´s the chances of being offered a job and the company waiting 6 months or a year for the application to be approved? Or is it a case of once a job is offered they rush the visa application through in a month or two?

Cheers,

Stuart

labour market in Canada compared to UK (in reply to: Immigration Questions)
Hi Stuart,

Thanks for your reply.According to your tale I suppose that the labour market in Canada can be similar to that in Scotland.

I would apply under the scheme of High Skilled Migrant Professional (HSMP) for UK, but the average time to get the work permit under this schema is only like 4 months, not years. Its faster than Canada, that is 12 months. The difference is that Canada grants a Residence Permit immediately, meanwhile in UK you have to wait 5 years living there before that.

I have the idea (only that) according to job web sites that possibilities to find a job in UK are much better than in Canada. I have seen in this formum many critics to finding job in Canada. Maybe you have some appreciation..?

On the other hand, social risks in UK are higher than in Canada I think.

As far as I know, few companies in Canada
would be ready to wait for you 6 months or a year, unless you are unique in your experience.

I hope to have more insights to take a decision about what country could be better for working and living.

Thanks for any opinion or experience,

Frank
