This is a board for people interested in immigrating to Canada and making Canada their new home; I would think that everyone here would therefore think that it is indeed "worth it" to apply for PR. Not sure where you are coming from with this question, under what circumstances and with what hopes, but only YOU can answer whether it is "worth it" to uproot your life and start new in another country. Best of luck to you.

I agree with wannabe. If you ask "is it worth it?", then what was the attraction in the first place? If you´re content where you´re at, and if moving to Canada is only a compulsive adventure, then I´d say no, it´s not worth it. There are many facrors in such a decision. Jobs, salary, social system, political views, environment, people. All these have to be weighed and only you know what´s important in deciding.

if it is mandatory that you find a job in IT- I would say no. If you took a survey of all the Skilled Working applicants hoping to find work in their field you will quickly discover that there are more applicants than potential jobs. That said, if you have unique skills, or interests in other areas - then Canada can be a country of great opportunity.

Is it reallly worth it (in reply to: Is it really worth)
ram - it IS really worth it if only because the permanent resident card is a beautiful, multicolored item with your mug shot and other vitals which you can show off to your family and friends and even proudly frame and hang up on a wall in your home, loudly proclaiming your allegiance to one of the last sane countries in a world become more and more psychotic, psychopathic and savage. Go for it!

Ram, By so far you probably got a good idea. No matter what experience you have; in Canada they are all worthless. Competition for any professional level job is unthinkable, even worse than India. Many guys are unemployed even with class Canadian university degree.

Whether you can manage a job in IT field; you may try, if I were you, I would probably buy a million dollar lotto ticket
iinstead. Means, not saying you will not get..but..

Canada is still a good country to settle if you agree to sacrifice your career, spend your life by doing a hard earned menial job and live in hand to mouth and enjoy the social secutiy of a 1st world country. Decision is yours.

Shah... are you currently in Canada? you seem to have very strong information about the job market.

If 50,000 IT workers show up to Canada every year... there is a good chance that 45,000 will need to find a different kind of job!

Sharon, I´m not in Canada and don´t wish to be there any more. Situation is not with the IT worker, for all.
I agree 200% with you, and that is my point. What´s the reason of bringing more and more professionals every year where there is absolutely no need for them? people are showing up in professional category hoping they would find a job as apparently Canada is in dire need of them. isn´t it? If Canada is not in dire need then why inviting more? Absolutely insane. Canada should rather take steps to control their brain drainage rather than inviting more. I researched many Canadian based publications about brain drainage and found astonishing info., I don´t believe any 1st world country loses there top products like Canada. There must be something unique to Canada.

if you are not in Canada, I would strongly request you refrain from commenting on the current job market. Reading the highly dubious posts by quasi immigrants over at n$^ canada is no indication of reality.

Canada has the lowest unemployment rate in 30 years. Alberta has one of the lowest unemployment rates on the continent. Is there a problem with creditation - yes. BUT, there is some responsiblity that falls to the new Canadian to make sure they 1)do everything they can to prepare themselves for the Canadian job market - that includes language training 2) that they NOT assume there are endless jobs in one particular field and 3)realize Canada has taken a very entrepreneurial attitude towards immigration - do you want a specific job - get a work permit and the restrictions and safety that goes with it. If Canada excluded those with IT training because there was an over-abundance of talent - what do you think would happen? You would scream and yell that an applicant should have the chance to make their way - any way they can. Canada can´t win for trying and I get really tired of the whining when I have businesses all around me crying for competent staff.

If you want to take your chances and create your own future without restriction... there are endless opportunities in this country and they aren´t just for white people.
