I recently became permanent resident of Canada. I am going to India from Vancouver,changing plane in Shanghai. Do I need chinese visa for that. I am a citizen of India. Thank you very much for your reply. Have a great day.

You will only be in transit anyway. No visa required.

You should check with the Chinese embassy in Vancouver, in some countries like in the US you have to meet all the requeriements of entry in order to transit the US.
In Canada you need a transit visa, I don´t know about China but you should check that out before you go.
