Subject: Language Proficiency Test - IELTS
  Hi all,

I am planning to apply to migrate to Canada under skilled worker category. Based upon the six factors, I calculated and found that my point is 67, which makes me eligible for making application. For confirmation, I checked with a few immigration consultants in Bangladesh who also agree that my point reaches 67 allowing myself to apply. As for my language proficiency in my first official language (English), the consultants, using the IELTS Test Score Equivalency Chart, mentioned that I am supposed to earn at least 12 points out of a maximum 16. I explain here how it works. My overall band score in IELTS is 6.5 with scores in Reading and Speaking modules are 7.5 and 7 respectively, while 6 is the score for both Listening and Writing modules. However, my Reading and Writing modules were taken under ACADEMIC option, instead of GENERAL TRAINING which is suitable for migration purpose. It is known that the ACADEMIC Reading and Writing modules are designed to test the full range of formal language skills required for academic purposes. The GENERAL TRAINING modules emphasize basic survival skills in English speaking environment.

Considering the fact above, will my scores in IELTS be accepted favourably during assessment by the immigration authorities, following submission of my application ? Is there any possibility that they revert it back because of the absence of GENERAL TRAINING modules ? One thing to note, that the medium of written communication at my workplace was English. Will this contribute to language proficiency skill additionally ?

I would strongly appreciate advise or comments regarding the subject.

Sincerely,

Arefeen
