Hey, Guys, I´ve been busy throwing my consumer junk away, it´s really difficult, then getting the house ready for sale in the Spring, but have missed you all and the forum. Did you receive your cool PR cards yet?

I think the immigration folks are getting dizzy from tracking all of us immigrants who are going to and fro from USA to Canada and vice versa AFTER we have supposedly landed. Richard - how about showing your USA passport and telling them you´re bringing stuff to your aunt Fanny. It must get tiresome to tell them the long story each time you cross. I think many of the officers are accustomed to new arrivals landing and actually staying in Canada, and can´t figure out someone
who keeps going back and forth.

Hey Bob, nice to see you back, we missed you.

Yes, got that neat PR card with mapleleafs all over - what a relief to actually have it in hand. When we crossed last time with it, the IO didn´t even ask to look at it. What a disappointment after this 2 year effort!

And good idea on saying that our stuff is going to relatives, will consider that. As you know, wannabe and I have had some interesting situations with IOs at the border.
I think it´s the whole security thing that´s causing them to be so uppity.

Yes, we´re also getting our house ready for sale. Will be trying "by owner" first, altho I don´t expect immediate success with that. Also have tons of junk to get rid of as it´s too much to try to move.

How´s everything in BC? Wondering if you´ve been back there yet.

Hi Bob and Richard:

Good to hear from you.

I´m envious of you both that you have your beautiful PR cards in hand; as you both know, our address was rejected by the IO when we landed, and I´m waking up nearly every night slightly panicked over what to do. I try to tell myself we don´t really need them yet, but I can´t quite get myself to buy that arguement. After hearing the questions that Richard is getting when crossing the border repeatedly, I´m also starting to worry that border agents will wonder why I have officially landed yet don´t have "proof" for it (other than my stamped COPR). We´re thinking we may go up at Thanksgiving to get our SINs and possibly send our PR card application at that time (using the same address). I´ll feel much better when I have them in hand.

We´re in the same position as both of you, clearing out the junk and prepping the house for sale. We have some compelling reasons to stay here until late spring, so we´re not in too much of a hurry, but the house projects keep adding up. On our 85 year old bungalow, the list is never ending, for both necessary and purely aesthetic reasons. On top of it we still have hail damage from a nasty storm a few weeks ago; depending on the cost of repairs, we may or may not have some extra money to put into a few updates in hopes of getting the most out of the sale of the house. Timing is not the best for any of us, either in real estate or exchange rates.

It´s good to have you both here to touch base with during this "in between" time. I´m already nervous about tomorrow´s election and will be spending the evening glued to the TV, hoping the bad guys don´t somehow manage to steal this one too.

Hi Wannabe,
Also closely watching tonight´s election. Am especialy interested in your and Bob´s state, looking for Brown over DeWine. At least we can then say there is some justice in the world. Also Virginia and Tennessee should be very interesting, though I´m not as confident with the latter based on latest polls.

In my mind, this country´s still much too off course to reconsider our decision, despite the outcome. For us, the politics and overall direction were always part of the calculation.

Hope those home repairs are manageable and reasonable. If it helps, keep in mind that the goal has already been reached and it´s now just a matter of logistics from here.

It turned out to be a pretty good night here, and for the country in general. Unfortunately we won´t be able to escape the importance of US politics even when we are north of the border, but at least Canada is likely to remain a more moderate climate and not as likely to swing as far right as this one has. Let´s hope good things continue down here.
