Subject: About landing?
I have got my Immigration visa to land in Toronto Canada but I have instead booked to land in Montreal then travel later on to Toronto by any other mean of transport. But below is the advice given by my lawyer.

Firstly, and most importantly, YOU CANNOT LAND IN
MONTREAL. This is very important and this is why
Toronto was listed as your intended city of
residence on your forms. The province of Quebec
has their own selection process and you did not
apply under this process. So if you were to land
in Montreal, they would ask you for your
selection card and when you could not present it,
because you did not apply through their process,
they would seize your visa. You are free to live
in Montreal once you have landed, but you CANNOT
arrive, or land, in Quebec.

Please can you share your experience because I don´t have any other otpion since I have already bought my ticked and confirmed my booking and there is no direct flight from my country to Toronto.

Leslie,

Did you apply under the Federal Skilled Worker category?

If you did so, the word "Federal" implies that you can land, live and settle wherever you want.

I am not an expert, but I hear from others that you can land at any port of entry in Canada. Do not rely on what I say now, let others confirm it first.

..as an example, even if you were a provincial nominee for, let´s say, the Nunavut province, which has no common border with the United States, and if someone plans to land in Canada by car, coming from the US, there is not much one can do than to land in one of the Southern provinces.

Can someone confirm?

..but on the other hand, maybe Quebec has a different set of rules about landing.. Like I said, let an expert advise you on this.

Didn´t you just receive your visa from Africa in record time (6 months)? Same Leslie?

Good luck to you and happy landing either way!

Maybe you come back and write about your landing experience.

:)

As stated on other boards, you CANNOT land in Quebec. Your lawyer is correct. Quebec has its own set of rules, and although you can live there after you land, you MUST land in any other province. You do not have to land in Toronto, but it must be anywhere other than Quebec. Sorry for the bad news.

Still about landing? (in reply to: About landing?)
Can I then use Montreal as a transit airport to Toronto in case I can´t clear Canadian Imigration there?
Thanks in advance for your reply.

I´m not sure, but from what I´ve read, no. Definitely check with your lawyer though; that´s what you pay him/her for! :)

Leslie

According to the federal law, you must clear Customs and Immigration at your FIRST port of arrival once you land in Canada, you CANNOT use Montreal as a transist city.

Second thing, you cannot land in Montreal unless that you have been selected under Quebec´s immigration program, if you haven´t you CANNOT land there.

If you do so, you may be refuse of entry, your visa will be cancelled and you are going to have to apply again.

Don´t break rules, they are clearly specified in the conditions of your application.
