Hi All,
I will be getting Canadian Permenant card soon. I heard that If I file for my taxes for next year does my citizenship counter will start ? I mean even thought I am out of Canada during that time ? Is that legal ? whats catch on this ?

(in reply to: Citizenship) Not correct at all!! You have to be physically present in Canada for 3 years out of a 4 year period to be eligible for citizenship!

(in reply to: Citizenship) The shortest possible way to become a citizen is to remain in Canada continuously from the day you become a PR. Then you can apply for Citizenship 3 years after landing. If you were legally in Canada for 1 year directly before becoming a PR you can count half the days reducing the time to 2 1/2 years.
