Subject: Sponsoring an Aged Parent
My dad is almost 90 years old, and unable to manage on his own any longer. He is in great health. I need to bring him over to Canada on a permanent basis. Whch is the most efficient way of doing this?
Thanks

try and secure him a visitors visa... It is going to be a long shot, but I think that is your best way to try.

at 90, his chances for a full PR sponsorship approval are small. time is against you and his inevitable failing health is against you. If successful, make sure you secure adequate health insurance to cover any potential problems your father may encounter. It will not be cheap.

At the same time, you may need to look at ways you can help your father back home or plan to take an extended holiday to be with him.

Sharon is a 100% correct. Get him over here on a visitor visa so that you can sleep soundly at night. Make sure plans are in place for the inevitable and purchase lots of extra medical insurance.

Retain someone good to submit an application for permanet residence from within Canda (H&C application) based on family reunification and unusual and undeserved hardship.

A H&C application in process will not prevent removal if your father is caught drag racing at three in the morning but could get him Permanent Resident status even if he is approved in principle and inadmissable for health reasons.
