Subject: how to stay together
My fioncee (british) and I( Canadian) have been together for 2 years in England but only have documents for about 1 year saying we´ve been devoted to eachother (rental contracts). we now have a child and she has dual citizenship but I have heard that getting him over to Canada will take like 9 months and of course we dont want to be seperated for that long especially with our daughter. I called an immigration number and he suggested for him to apply for a tourist visa so he can come over with us and then we get married in Canada and get citizenship that way. IS that possible or do we have to start the process here for spousal or sponsership visa...because I´m in england with him now and I dont work so how could i even sponser him with no income and not even be in canada. I guess i just really want to know how we can stay together as a family and get over to Canada quick. thanks you in advance for any suggestions

You can do it that way (come over on a tourist visa - do NOT mention the marriage part to immigration!). But he can´t work for the first 8 months while the paperwork is being processed. Why do you not apply for PR from the UK based on common-law marriage? You don´t need an income but you do need to show proof that you have something lined up in Canada to come to. Or if he is young enough I suggest you get him a BUNAC visa, come over and get PR started while he is working. Really, the CIC website says it all! (www.cic.gc.ca)

PR problem (in reply to: how to stay together)
thanks for the help. I´ve been to cic.gc.ca and it says you can apply for a PR after you´ve been in Canada for 2 years, but we live in England at the moment and so we wouldnt be able to apply for it. and he´s 22 so i dont think he can get a BUNAC, can he?
