Subject: Masters of Public Health from the US ...anyone? |
I have an MPH from the US and had landed recently and returned to finish my degree. I have not found any jobs in Canada yet.Iam wondering if those with an MPH, MHA etc. have had any luck in finding jobs in Canada or know about the prospects.

(in reply to: Masters of Public Health from the US ...anyone?) I am speaking out of ignorance here... how many people are out there with your training and how many positions would a city have that require your qualificiations?

(in reply to: Masters of Public Health from the US ...anyone?) Well there should a good number but numbers may vary according to concentration. Examples of Public Health concentrations are: Epidemiology, Health Policy & Mgt., Biostatistics,Social & BehavioraL Health, Environmental & Occupaional Health, International Health etc. The jobs are there usually in hospitals, research institutions, large companies,NGO´s, city & state health depts.
My concentration (one of the smallest)is in Environmental & Occupational Health. Job opportunities are there with oil companies, environmental consultants, public health inspector jobs, organizations that deal with environmental health policy and also I should be eligible for most health and safety positions.
But again a lot of jobs come through networking. In the US I have been able to atleast get some interviews lined up. I graduate in 10 days and I have not settled in Canada yet. I guess if I were to move there I would increase my chances????? Iam an optimistic fool. :)

(in reply to: Masters of Public Health from the US ...anyone?) Before I start painting a negative picture on job prospects in Canada. I have to admit that I did get one call in the US from the hiring manager in a large company based in Canada. He just wanted to know about when I graduate, when I was moving etc and that they were following up on my application....but really nothing to get my hopes high about.

(in reply to: Masters of Public Health from the US ...anyone?) I guess swimming without getting wet would be wishful thinking :)
Sharon,I haven´t really looked at government job boards except for going to the Health Canada website.I guess I should go through job boards of each provincial govt. Thanks for the suggestion.
