Subject: does an Immigrant status in Canada mean anything.. |

Hi All,
How far Immigrant status in Canada would help in getting a Business Visa to US, for a person on Indian passport?
In other words, does an Immigrant status in Canada mean anything for the US visa officer?
Any input in this regard is highly appreciated.

(in reply to: does an Immigrant status in Canada mean anything..) Em,
If you are (only) a Canadian permanent resident from India, to the US you will be a "Canadian landed immigrant" from India, to which the same rules apply as to any normal Indian citizen..
..but everything will change when you will become a Canadian citizen. You will taste the life of a "privileged" alien. You will not need a visa to enter the US and some NAFTA goodies will also apply, such as being able to work in US much easier and with far less restrictions than a "normal alien".
Just go to the USCIS website (www.uscis.gov) and do a search on the terms "canada" or "canadian"..

(in reply to: does an Immigrant status in Canada mean anything..) Doesn´t really mean a whole lot. You have to take US visa from the US consulate as usual you would do it in India. Here you have to prove your ties with Canada (job/business, bank statement, properties..so and so).
