1st, Book an visa interview online with your local US consulate; should be for Tourist class. Interview dates sometimes may have a long waiting time. On the website you´ll find all necessary papers.

Shortly, you have to prove your reasonable ties with Canada (so thet they are convinced that you won´t stay there). These must include; The Interview Offer letter in Company Letter head, Your Valid Studentship, Employer´s letter & pay stubs (You are student so not for you), Bank Statements etc.

Denial chance is also high, depends mostly on the passport you are holding and your job/financial condition.

Hi Shah,

Should Dilon apply for a Tourist visa or a business visa? He is visiting US for a business, and i think he should be applying for a business visa. Please correct me if i am wrong!

In fact, I was not 100% sure about that, that´s a very good point to think. I told earlier based on my experience with the Canadian Citizens going to USA for job interview. Their cases are different, they just have to tell at POE the purpose; job interview, and show the interview letter/returning ticket and enter just as a tourist.

Business visa I thought something like as you are going for busniess purpose, like attending official meetings or so. Job interview is just for one day. I have doubt though whether they issue visa for job interview.

I am not sure if having to attend an immigration interview in the US would qualify as "business" in terms of a US non-immigrant visa.

Still, US business visas and tourist visas (B1/B2) are stamped on a passport as "B1/B2" and there is no difference between the two. Both visas are virtually visually indistinguishable. Only a USCIS official can tell whether your visa is B1 or B2 by checking your record in their computers.

When applying for your US visa, clearly state the exact purpose of your trip. Let the US immigration officer show you the right way, do not assume anything.

Good Luck!

Uniden´s points are logical. But the applicants have to specify the category of Visa in the application before facing the interview.

I think the only option is to call the 1-900 no. of US consulate and ask.

Also, intention of travel must be 100% honest as Uniden mentioned. I know many guys who just enter USA as tourists and stay their for an indefinite time for job hunting. If someone is caught, he would be barred for many years from US entry.

Shah, Uniden and [**.64.28.70]

Thanks for your replies.

Actually, I am 100% honest to come back, but its hard to assure the US embassy that I am a bona fide visitor.

The worst thing is that, my studies are gona finish this month (december). SO I will not be a student after this month, but still have visa for another 5 months. I think it will be hard to show reasonable ties with canada.

Hope I will get the US visa for my interview,, otherwise I have go back (to my home country) :(

Thanks guys,

Dilon

Depending on your nationality though, I see you having a tough time. It is very wise not to get a Rejection seal in the passport.

Try to convince the employer to arrange a phone interview or VDO conference, explain your situation, American Employers are very considerate. I got my current job in FL just by a 12 mins phone interview from Toronto.

I think they are already willing to sponsor you H-1, so aware of your visa issue.

Everybody,

Quit complicating things!

1.) Dilon, apply for a US visitor visa in any case!

2.) Is this interview in Buffalo related to a Canadian PR application, or is it for a job?

If it´s a CIC interview for a PR application, and you need to appear at the Buffalo visa center, then there are no doubts about your intentions.. You plan to attend the interview and return to Canada when done. No "dual intent" there, especially since you plan on immigrating to Canada on a permament basis.

If it is only for a job interview, try to arrange a phone interview, then if you are successful in securing this job, explore possible sponsorship by this prospective US employer (very lenghty process, by the way), otherwise, under current conditions, your chances are slim to none that you will get a US visa in time for htis interview.

If you are the citizen of a "visa waiver" country, you do not need a visa to enter US, and you can stay for up to 3 months in the US on a non-extandable, non-immigrant, non-employable basis, but I guess this is not your case.

Good Luck!

Ok, I just saw the topic of this posting (was everybody blind?!?):

"Need U.S. Visa for IMMIGRATION Interview"

Dilon did not mention a JOB interview at all, the others did. We all should have read the subject of this conversation FIRST.
Advice to all others: Please do not assume anything!

Anyway, this only supports what I have said above:

APPLY FOR US VISIT VISA!

Funny mistake, started by me:).

Though Dilon didn´t correct it before.

But, I´m afraid as he is losing his Canadian Status in Dec, they may ask him to take the Visa from his own country.

Lets hope the best.
