Subject: how to handle job offers
Ok can somebody explain this to me. I am pretty confident I can get a job offer from a canadian company, but I am also pretty confident that once they ask me ´so when could you start´ - if i am to tell them ´oh, as soon as my application is processed, 2 to 4 years´ they would just laugh at me. so what do people do? do you look for some kind a work permit and start working right away and then apply for residency? if so, are these hard to get (i.e. is it like the US style h1b or somewhat faster?)
thanks everyone

Mirza,
Just like the US, Canada also has a skilled worker visa. The good thing is that your employer does not need to sponsor you for permanent residence. You can do that on your own. So you take a job in Canada and then apply for your PR as a skilled worker. You´d be waiting for your PR while already settled in Canada. Additionally, you would get 10 points for "pre-arranged employment" in Canada. Also, the time you spend in Canada working while waiting for your PR would count towards your residency requirement for keeping your PR as well as towards your requirement for citizenship.
