Subject: Parents Sponsorship Forum
Hello everybody who sent sponsorship application for parents/grandparents after June 24, 2003. I want to start this topic with new title in order people could easily find us through GOOGLE search.
As you know Ministry of Immigration stopped processing of our applications in June 24, 2003.
Our applications sit in some storage room in Mississauga CIC office while our parents suffering away from us. It feels like Canada is trying to reach the final solution to the issue of parental sponsorship. (Our aging parents do not have time to wait 10 years to join us).
My e-mail address is jenia19@hotmail.com.
I have full time job and not much time.
We need to gather together to let the government that we care and we want to be with our parents and this is UNFAIR (quoted from link http://www.canada-city.ca/canada-immigration/posting.php?messageid=1783). See my comments in this link. Dear ?sponsoryourparent?, please e-mail me.
In my next letter I will try to explain steps what we can do.
But for now try to find more people in the same situation. Use Internet search and what ever you can. Nobody care about our parents, only we, adult children.

why do you think we do not care? Who will pay to look after all these parents that you want to bring? Wwhat skills do your parents bring? How do they help the economy. They pay nothing into the system. Are you prepared to pay all their hospital bills. It is nice that you want your parents with you. You can also visit them in your home country.

Dear Anonymous.
Care about yourself. My family pay taxes every month enough to support several families on welfare. If you have nothing to do, may be you are one of the welfare receivers?

What we can do... (in reply to: Parents Sponsorship Forum)
Halting processing of sponsorship application is a political issuer. Everybody got letter from the Ministry, stated that our parents is not priority for THIS government. Of course Canada has great demand of prostitutes to fill vacancies of ?Skilled workers?, than our aging parents and grandparents. I think everybody just watch TV and familiar well with our Immigration Minister. We do not have time to wait 4 more years when this corrupted government will be swept. But we live in democratic country. Lets help oppositions to remove Ms.Srgo from the office now.
We do not have choices to see our parents until she is a head of Ministry of Immigration; it was her personal order to stop processing of sponsorship application for parents/grandparents applications. There is chaos in the Ministry.
So, what we have to do?
1. Make an appointment with you local Member of Parliament (MP). You can find you local MP using your postal code: http://www.parl.gc.ca/information/about/people/house/PostalCode.asp?Source=SM
Ask his advice what to do.
Doesn?t matter Political Affiliation of your MP, if he/she member of opposition parties (Conservative or NDP), possibly you will get different advices.

2. Send letter to Opposition Parties.
We live in democratic country and have Official Shadow Cabinet http://www.conservative.ca/english/shadowcabinet.asp

a) Citizenship and Immigration in Shadow Cabinet is Ms. Diane Ablonczy http://www.conservative.ca/english/..%5Cmedia%5Cab%5Cablonczy.htm
Send very strong letter to her. I think e-mail and regular mail as well. Or you can also call and leave a message.

b) Citizenship and Immigration from New Democratic Party http://ndp.ca/positivechoice/ party is Bill Siksay http://www.burnabydouglasndp.com/index.html. Send very strong letter to him describe you frustration, depression and so on. Please find very strong words, as we all feel.

3. We can e-mail our comments to NDP and place our Petition: http://home.ican.net/~edtoth/ndpimmig.html
Lets think about this together. Guys, if we do not help to our parents/grandparents, nobody will help them.

4. May be to send collective letter to newspapers (Global mail of National Post) or to TV (cbc or ctv). Lets think.
5. Our community immigration services cannot help us, because they used government funds. Only opposition party of independent reporter can raise the problem, as national issue.

Opposition party now try to remove Ms.Srgo http://www.liberal.ca/bio_e.aspx?&id=35106 from the office. We can help; otherwise we will see our parents in 10+ years.

I have full time job and don?t much time. Please e-mail me jenia20@hotmail.com

For Our parents... (in reply to: Parents Sponsorship Forum)
Jenia,

I fully support your cause.

This is a common cause - one which can´t be measured in monetary benifits. I´m hurt that some people weigh human values by possible benifits these parents bring. I mean what we are today is because of our parents. To ask what they bring is like asking what we had when we were being raised.

One reason I became a prospective immigrant to Canada was the fact that this country recognized and worked to bring families together as fast as possible; unlike it´s neighbor country.

However, this report you bring forth is disturbing and merits attention. Please give more information to verify source of this information. If any help is needed please let us know.

Thanks and keep up the good work of standing up for what is fair and right. Believe me there are others who think like you.

cic website says it is taking 17-18 months to process parent and grandparent applications. nothing being said about stopping it. I guess there is more parents in the Q than Canada can take in all at once. It makes sense that spouses, dependent children and refugees are taking priority. I think Ozz would agree.

Parents Sponsorship (in reply to: Parents Sponsorship Forum)
Anonymous,
I don?t understand what do you mean: Yeah, please quote credible source. Have not heard such news...
Why you think that refugees can take priority before parents. So I pay my taxes to support refugees, but not my parents? Most of our parents/grandparents simply don?t have much time to wait.
Interestingly enough I did not notice any delay on the governments behave when it comes to cashing the cheque I sent them as a fee to process the application. Back in September of 2003 the government of Canada has received from me $1525 of after tax money as required. The fee includes $550 processing fee per sponsored person and must be paid when I submit my application and $975 right of permanent residence fee. Although the second fee can be paid later the Manual for Sponsorship states that ?If you pay the Right of permanent residence fee at the same time you pay the processing fees, it will facilitate processing as we will not have to contact you later.? Therefore, as of today, the government has received $1525 from me for nothing.
As you see no sponsors answer my posting so far. I expected this. I know two women in the same situation as me, but when I said them lets write letter to MP and do something (one woman has much better English than me). I think you can guess their answer: we have no idea about politics; we don?t believe that can change something; we newer vote (my opinion: person who doesn?t vote in reality vote for OBSCURANTISM) and so one. And finally: We will be pray for our parents!
I think praying may help to these women, but not to their parents!
I already sent letters to local MP and Opposition. Thanks my daughter: she helped me to write these letters with proper grammar.

I came to Canada with my husband and daughter as landed immigrants more than 10 years ago with $9000 US (nine thousands). We never were on government assistance. We pay thousands of dollars in taxes every year. I feel angry and frustrated that I cannot do so obvious obligation to my aging mother.
?Canada has a reputation of being a humanitarian country. It publicly worries about human rights and democracy in other countries. I think it is a hypocritical to criticize other government for not helping their poor, while Canada itself doesn?t allow it?s citizens to help their parents in the most basic way of all, by being by their side.? (Quoted form my letter to MP)
Anyway if you know someone who has complains about our Ministry of Immigration and Ms. Judy Sgro please let me know. Please see the link

Sponsorship of parents (in reply to: Parents Sponsorship Forum)
You are lucky one if mandatory $550 is not money for you. It?s not critical for me either, but imagine for many hardworking Canadians this is one-week salary.
If you think that credible source is http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/times/process-in.html you very lucky one.
My credible source is my local MP officer who spoke with high rank bureaucrat from Ottawa. This bureaucrat told to the officer that she (Ms. Sgro) order to stop processing of sponsorship of parents. Nobody knows for how long.

I don?t understand your point. What do you want?

I submitted an application to sponsor my mother in September 2003, a month after my father?s death in August 2003. She is old and is living alone after her husband?s death. At the time, based on experience of our friends we expected her to join us within a year.
Canada has a reputation of being a humanitarian country. I had my friends in my country asking me when do I expect to bring my mother to Canada, and when I tell them that I can?t because the Canadian immigration system has stopped working no one believes me.
She is ALONE do you understand this? Behind such delay are parent ?s lives!!! MY PARENT, and I am a Canadian Citizen. And I don?t want this corrupted government to ruin my live. I didn?t vote for this government (I voted for Conservative), but majority (slight) voted for Liberals. We have scandals after scandals with Liberal Ministers. Thanks God and democracy we have strong Opposition.
If democracy works I can do something to help Opposition to remove Ms.Sgro from the office. Just watch TV (not soup operas, but Canadian news). She is a head of Immigration and she is responsible for the chaos in the Ministry. Watch for her behaviour in Parliamentary. She not respects different opinions. She feels herself as a dictator.

I would suggest that immigration was a mess before Ms. Sgro took control of the ministry. She has only been in charge since the election. As for the strong opposition - everything I read suggests that they want the controls/rules even tighter. I just listened to Randy White tonight speak about a quicker and stronger deportation process.

Dear lady, I understand your passion for this issue. My father died 2 years ago and my mother is alone. Would I like it if I was in another country. No, but I would know that it was a real possibility when I moved. Canada never gave you a guarantee that your mother could come. In fact they have not said no, they have only offered a time line that you suggest is unacceptable. While I respect your position, it is also a reality that immigration is not only about the applicant. I have my own immigration issues. I am concerned about discrimination towards applicants from 3rd world countries where settlement money is 2-3 years wages. A kind european gentleman corrected my thinking by suggesting that while the situation appears unfair - it protects both the host country and the applicant from economic disaster. Immigration is not a one sided issue. It is about the interests of 2 parties - the applicant and the host country. I support your efforts to bring your Mother to Canada, but I cannot support the efforts to protest in the streets.

You THOUGHT it would take a year, like your friends. CIC is saying 17-18 months. That is a difference of 5-6 months. It is not the end of the world.
