Difference of CAIPS Note / BC vs ON

Subject: Difference of CAIPS Note / BC vs ON
I live in BC, and I sent my CAIPS Note requests to two different offices (BC & ON) to see the difference. I have received two sets of my notes from each office.

I am a Skilled Worker immigrant. Here is the difference on my notes.

-------------------------------------------
A. Regional Headquarters (BC)
-------------------------------------------

Received [Feb. 16, 2006] & [May. 17, 2006]

- gives less info
- uses only the half space of the paper to print on
(What a huge waste!! the bottom half of EACH paper is blank,
therefore, the total number of pages increases unnecessarily and it weights heavier.)

-------------------------------------------
B. Public Rights Administration (ON)
-------------------------------------------

Received [Feb. 1, 2006] & [Jan. 4, 2007]

- gives more detailed info (incl. breakdown of my mark in each section, such as age, experience, education, etc. + some Medical file info.)
- uses the full space of the paper to print on

Note that the following page is the list of the offices to request "your own CAIPS/FOSS note." BC Regional Headquarters is one of them.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/atip/requests-address.html

I´m planning to write to BC Regional Headquarters to suggest that they should save the paper and include the full details of CAIPS Note like ON office does. (FOSS is the same situation, I assume.)

Hope this will help someone. Any comments are welcome.

Caips should be requested through the Privacy Coordinator in Ottawa Norono Building.

ON and BC have regional offices for FOSS notes and CAIP´s are outside of Canada at Visa Posts.

What I understand from the CIC website (in reply to: Difference of CAIPS Note / BC vs ON)
People interested in CAIPS/FOSS should read the following official pages carefully.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/atip/requests-personal.html

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/atip/requests-atip.html

Yes, CAIPS is for the file outside of Canada, and FOSS is inside. Of course, I know that and I have requested and received both. You wrote:

>Caips should be requested through the Privacy Coordinator
>in Ottawa Norono Building.

I think this part of your understanding is wrong. The point here is whether you request "your own record" or not. Therefore, regional office takes care of CAIPS, too.

- To obtain Your OWN CAIPS/FOSS:
Request is supposed to be sent to Regional Office like one in BC, but even if you send it to Public Rights Administration (Ontario), they will still process it for you without any fees.

- To obtain Someone Else´s CAIPS/FOSS on behalf:
You have no choice but sending the request to Public Rights Administration (Ontario). There are special consent form and $5 fees applicable.

This is what I understand from the official website.

You started this thread by saying something is wrong with the information received. That you asked for CAIP´s & Foss and that you are a immigrant. Have you been Landed?

The addresses you copied and paste are for Personal information Requests and not Access to Information.

Here is the correct CIC form which can be used for CAIP´s or Foss notes. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5563B.pdf

Enclose a $5.00 money order or cheque payable to the Receiver General for Canada. CAIP´s are not free!

Any NCB entries you will not get.

The (Privacy Request) is FREE & can be made to any local office as well but if you want an Access to Information for CAIP´s notes you must include the $5.00 payment.

Access to Information requests can only be made by a Canadian or Permanent Resident and if your not a PR or Citz. you must be in Canada.

Good Luck getting all the information you require.

Roy and I were both right :) (in reply to: Difference of CAIPS Note / BC vs ON)

No, I never said such a thing. I wrote about the difference, like "less/more info" That´s all.

Yes, I landed about 6 months ago, so I´m not looking for anymore information. I just tried to help people here.

>Enclose a $5.00 money order or cheque payable to
>the Receiver General for Canada. CAIP?Ls are not free!

Well, it was free for me even before I became landed. The following thread may also help.

http://www.canada-city.ca/canada-immigration/posting.php?messageid=3863

(Mind you, I did not attached a copy of my visa, but it was no problem. They can tell by my Client ID anyways.)

>Access to Information requests can only be made by a >Canadian or Permanent Resident and if your not a PR or >Citz. you must be in Canada.

Ah, I got it!!! You are not in Canada and you automatically assumed I wasn´t too. That explains why. So both of us were right.

It wasn´t my intention to explain who can apply for CAIPS/FOSS and how in this thread. But, let me make clear for people who might have got confused...

---------------------------------------------------------
If you are applicant already in Canada, YOUR OWN CAIPS Note is free, but if you are not, you have to ask someone in Canada (Citizen, PR) to request ON BEHALF OF YOU.
---------------------------------------------------------

Anybody else has any other comments on the difference (my main topic)? Thanks! :)
