Subject: Permanent Resident Status
  Dear all,

I have a question for you regarding the permanent resident status...

This is what I have found on the www.cic.gc.ca ....

You will not lose your permanent resident status unless you spend too much time living outside of Canada. You must live in Canada for two years in every five-year period.

However, I heard that you can live only 6 months per year outside Canada in order not to lose your permanent resident status.
True or not?

Thanks Michael

Michael,

Not true!
Always trust CIC, not the gossip.

As a matter of fact, you can be out of Canada for entire 3 years in one piece, then spend 2 years back in Canada and you will be fine. This is not more or less than.. the "two years in every five-year period".
