Subject: Process for application
  Hi,

Can anyone tell me if I have to submit all the suppporting documents along with the application (Like Police Certificate, Language Proficieny, Proof of Funds). The CIC site says that you have to submit all these documents beforehand with your application.

But on the contrary few friends says that all supporting documents shoulf be submitted later when asked for! I will be applying from USA so the application will go to Buffalo.

Please adivice! Thanks.

Dheeraj,

It all depends on how much you would like to intentionally help or delay the processing of your application. When it is your application´s turn to be assessed, and CIC sees that some documents are missing, then they will ask for these documents to be provided, which will delay processing. Some documents are hard to get and may take months to obtain, i.e. FBI (3 months), police reports from foreign countries, original sealed university transcripts, ...

Rule of thumb is: Try to find the balance between obtaining as many documents as possible in a timely manner, and filing you application as quickly as possible in order to enter the waiting queue, then work on getting the other supporting documents while you wait for your initial assessment (IA). Once you have received your AOR letter with your file#, and your application is in the queue, you can add to your application by submitting missing documents, taking IELTS test, updating existing documents (like Schedule 3 - employment history). Your primary goal is to have a COMPLETE and ready-to-go application when it lands on the immigration officer´s desk for assessment.

Good Luck!

Thanks Uniden,

So its apparent that I will have to arrange all the documents beforehand submitting the application.

What happens if the Police Certificate expires by the time my file is opened by the visa office? I will be asked to get police certificate, yet again?

Dheeraj,

If you mean "HAVE TO arrange all documents" as in "MUST arrange all documents" beforehand submitting the application, then please re-read my posting. It translates into: you CAN, COULD, or SHOULD, not MUST. It is up to you to solve the "time equation" and to find the right balance.

File with what is at hand, or easy to get, get the rest later to CIC between AOR and IA.

No idea about the police certificates, but depending on how long it takes for your application to be processed, you MAY be asked to resubmit certain time-sensitive documents, such as police certificates.

Good Luck!

Buffalo is not under simplifed processing, therefore you must applied and put alone everything together...
Police clearance is depended on the country you live.....

We submitted our own application without the original university transcripts (using only certified copies) and there are many people submitting their applications without the IELTS, or without the FBI fingerprint reports. Certain things can be sent later, has nothing to do with simplified processing.

Dheeraj:

Uniden is correct. It is better to submit documents before hand (except FBI).

Last year I gathered all documents including FBI and submitted them with the first application. This was done as per their website instruction.

But at the time of IA (Initial Assessment - came almost an year after submission), they asked me to resubmit the FBI because it got expired.

So submit FBI only after 7-8 months. This will prevent them asking to resubmit FBI.

Good luck,
Karthik

This raises a question in my mind. How long are FBI prints valid for?

Thanks Karthik and Uniden for all the answers.

Also is there a way to track your application? Or just rely on visa office to send the notification of missing document? I am trying to find all the stages of processing and how I will come to know when excatly I need to submit missing document, if any.

You can track your application´s status using CIC´s e-CAS page, which is: https://services3.cic.gc.ca/ecas/authenticate.do, but will also be mentioned in your AOR letter. You cannot access this page without knowing your file#, which will also be present in the AOR letter.

As for the missing documents, CIC will notify you if need be. Nobody else will tell you better than CIC what you need and what you don´t.

I would like to give you a last piece of advice: Try not to go through, what I call, the "perfection paralysis" stage! Focus on submitting your application ASAP instead, and enter the queue. Waiting periods are not short at all, don´t waste time, it is your most important asset in life! Many things can be taken care of after that.

Good Luck!
