Subject: Application for Rehabilitation
I have applied for a renewal passport from my home country and I´m told by them that the process will take approximately a year.

Does anyone know if I would be able to apply for rehabilitation to Canada with my current expired passport? Or, a current passport (is) required for applying for rehabilitation.

By rehabilitation to Canada, I am referring to form 1441.
I will have a current passport by the time I start the process for Skilled Worker.

Thanks in advance.

Rehabilitation period (in reply to: Application for Rehabilitation)
I am in the US. On May of 2006 I was sentenced four years deferred adjudication/supervised probation for aggravated felony charge. I sent rehabilitation form to buffalo office as "Information Only" and they replied that I will not be able to apply until May of 2011. Does that mean my five years count from the day of sentencing instead of completion of sentence? Also, does that mean my conviction won´t count against me if I apply for rehabilitation and permanent residency once my five years waiting period expires? If not, what can I do to better my chances? Is there any straight forward law regarding rehabilitation or it´s up to the immigration officer?

By the way, you guys are being awsome helping others with their concerns.

To the original post.
Yes you should have a current passport.
Of course your post was two years ago, do not know why someone dug this up to post a completely different question.

To answer number 2 (JOE)
Yes the five years is from the end of your sentence, fines, probation etc...

If you put yourself on a payment plan for 20 years to pay your fines then you would have to wait 25 years.

Hope that helped.
