Subject: visa renewal(not talking about permits)
Ok what is the rule of renewing visa if you are on a post graduate work permit? Do I apply for a visa in Buffalo or just go back to my country and get a visa on my way back(say I am going on a 3 week vacation). What kind of visa will they issue if I have a valid work permit? I don´t seem to find any forms for that. Do I have to apply for a work visa from my home country? But I already have a work permit so how does that work? Is it safe to go like that? People with experience please share. Plenty of people should be on the same shoe here as the student visa usually expires by the time you graduate.

You must have received a visa when you arrived in Canada. You are going to get a similar one. You can either apply through Buffalo or your home country whichever is convenient. I hope you meant the visa to enter into Canada.

Peter, I will advice you to get your visa through Buffalo before you go inorder not to have problem with your visa while comming back because the home country might delay the visa or refuse you.Get your visa in Buffalo before you go.

Peter - I´m in the same situation as you although I have a study permit, not work permit. I have renewed my study permit but, of course, I don´t have a new visa. I will need to renew my visa since I am planning to travel outside Canada this year.

I have a follow up question based on other people´s replies here. When applying for renewal of the visa at the Buffalo consulate, do they require the applicant to go there for an interview?

No you don´t require an interview to renew your visa. All you need is copy of your student visa and you fill a form for multiple entry visa. Try this web www.cic. gc.ca
Hope this will help.
