Hi all
From readings I know that health insurance coverage starts after 3 months. So it is always a good bet to buy insurance for these 3 months.
Also is it true that the insurance has to be bought within 5 days of landing as after these 5 days no company will give insurance?
Also is it true that to be eligible for insurance coverage as a PR, one has to be present in the country for 153 days out of 183 days?
But I thiught the coverage starts after 90 days.
Someone please guide

What types of health care services are covered by OHIP?
OHIP pays for a wide range of health care services. Most basic and emergency health care services are covered. You should check with your doctor or hospital to find out whether a particular procedure or treatment is covered by OHIP.
Health care service providers will check the health card (OHIP) numbers of people they treat. It is important to carry your health card at all times. If you have a red and white health card OR green photo health card, please carry it. Your health care provider will need the number and will check to make sure the card is valid.
Important Information for New Immigrants to Ontario
You are not eligible for OHIP coverage during your first 3 months living in Ontario. However, you should apply as soon as you have arrived in Ontario and have a permanent address. You are also required to be present in Ontario for 153 days of the first 183 days after the day you apply for health coverage.

Usually you would like to purchase insurance before your arrival to Canada because you will have a waiting period of 48 hours (most of the cases) if you purchase it after you arrive in Canada. You can check with each company´s offering because different companies will have different rules regarding this.
