Subject: Advice for sponsoring spouse
I´m a Canadian citizen with no criminal record, working full time in Toronto. My girlfriend is an American citizen working full time in Hawaii. While Hawaii if beautiful and wonderful, it´s a very expensive place to live, so we´re thinking about getting married and living in Toronto. I´m trying to sort of what the quickest and easiest way for us to be together is. Get married, then apply with her living in Canada? Get married then apply with her living in the U.S.?

Any suggestions, stories etc. would be helpful. I wouldn´t have said I was an idiot, but the CIC website sure has me feeling like one. Talk about convoluted...

Man, I really can´t spell today. Hopefully the jist of that got through. Forgot to mention, my girlfriend also has no criminal record, we both speak English as our first language, neither of us have been married before, or have children... That´s all I can think of that might matter.

1) Get married, have her move here and apply in Canada. She can´t work for 8 months and will get full PR after 12-18 months.

2) Get married, apply apart and get her to come here after applying. Outside takes 6 months ish for full PR.

Depends if you want to be together asap and if it matters that she can´t work...

Thanks. We´d probably go for option 2. Neither of us are wealthy, so paying rent for an apartment for two in Toronto, for 8 months, would be a bit more of a strain than we´d like.
