Subject: return to Canada before PR card ?
I plan to do landing by flight to Toronto from Singapore. If I then make a short visit to US by driving to New York, will there be a problem for me to drive back to Toronto for my flight back to Singapore as I will not have the PR card issued to me by then? Could I use the COPR for my return trip to Canada?

Any help is appreciated

So, any person holding COPR driving to Canada from US does not need to produce PR card. I suppose if one does not have COPR, then a visa is required even if driving from US ?

From what I´ve heard so far, if you leave Canada before you get your PR card, then you will need to see a Canadian embassy abroad before you return to Canada to confirm that you are a permanent resident.

Maybe I am wrong, someone please confirm.

IF you are a US citizen, you CAN return to Canada by car without a visa or your PR card, just the paperwork in your passport. However, I am assuming you are not a US citizen, and therefore, you WILL need a travel visa from the Canadian embassy, as mentioned by Uniden.

Hi Jeff,

Can you please tell me if you did your application in Singapore and if you sent medical report in the same time with the Police Certificate and Fees? I have done my medical on 16 Feb 2007 in Singapore but the Police Cert. and fees I will send next week to CIC. Do you think I will get the PPR in one month like you?
Please help me with info,thanks.

GB, you should get PPR within 1 month from submission of medical and police certificate (assuming you are from Singapore/Malaysia). Might be slightly longer if other nationality. To expedite, submit police certificate in person.

Thanks for the earlier replies on PR card. Will heed advice and not take my chance,

You won´t need a travel document to re-enter Canada if you are crossing the border by car.

Travel document basically allows you to board the PLANE or ship from abroad.

However make sure that you meet the requeriments to enter the US, since you don´t have job (I don´t know if you do in Canada) and DHS might give you a hard time.

I re-entered Canada without my PR card from US (I am not US citizen).

You can only do this if you drive. You cannot re-enter thru bus/plane/boat or any other commercial vehicle without your PR card.

I confirmed this info upon my landing at the border.

you only need your PR card to re-enter Canada via a commercial carrier. IE Airline, bus or train. If your in a private vehicle or walking you only need your Passport and COPR

I am travelling from Dubai to Toronto for my landing , i would wish to travel to USA for a week and reenter Canada to fly back. Is it possible to reenter Canada without a PR card. Any suggestions I would really apprecite. If my friends drop me back by car is that good enough.
