Subject: Canadian citizenship when I am outside
  Hi, everybody!

I have to apply for Canadian citizenship on July 30th 2007, when I´ll have the required 1,095 days. By the end of August, however, I am leaving for Austria to do a two-year postdoc position. So, I am wondering what happens in my case. Do I have to give CIC only my new address in Austria or do I have to give them both my residence address in Austria plus a postal address in Canada?

Thanks in advance for the info.

I think it would be adviseable to provide your Canadian address during your citizenship process. Although they might accept your Austrain address while out of country, think how this might appear to them.

Thank you! Actually, I understood that CIC does not accept postal addresses that are outside Canada anyway, so the best thing I can do is to give them a postal address in Canada and to explain why I am leaving Canada for two years. As you noted, Richard, it doesn´t look very patriotic to leave Canada as soon as I file a citizenship application, so I´ll attach a letter.

Thanks once again!

Mercator,
I think you have this correct. That is what I would do. All the best on your temporary post doc position, Austria is a beautiful country.
