Subject: Permanent Residency Application
  Hello,

I´m a U.S. resident looking into the possibility of applying for permanent residency of Canada. I have enough points to qualify for the Federal Skilled Worker program, and the only area I can identify through online research which might be a sticking point is the roughly 10,000 dollars required as proof of financial support for six months. Could anyone tell me if the $10,000 should be readily available in a bank account prior to applying, or are other assests acceptable? I´d say I have $4,000 in my account, with another $8,000 in a retirement fund that would be added to my account in the event that I were to leave my current job and move to Canada. Could the retirement fund be included in the proof of funds, or do I need a current account balance in excess of $10,000 cash?

Also, would proof of funds be required prior to submitting an application, or would that be required at a later date? I´m aware that the application process could take 1 and a half to 2 years or more on average, and I´d really like to get the process started.

Also, are there any general points about the application process that I might be overlooking? Any frequently asked questions? Any assistance or pointers from anyone who´s been through the process would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Kelly

Proof of funds is required at both the times i.e., at the time of submission and at evaluation of your application. The funds should be readily available which means they can be cash, fixed deposits, stocks, bonds, etc.
You saying that the funds will be added to your account once you leave the job may not qualify. Why not ask your friends to lend you some money for application purposes?. However at the port of entry as an immigrant you will have to show the required amount else they will not let you enter

Future possibility of getting funds is unacceptable.Yes have your friends lend you money for application purposes. It should serve the purpose for now. Having the money in the bank throughout the application process is NOT necessary. But as Anonymous says, make sure you take your money when you enter Canada. Good Luck.
