Subject: bring my husband to canada from the us
  HI !
I am a canadian citizen and I immigrated to the us after marying an american. Now We want to come back to Canada soon( missing home too much!). I will sponsor my husband.

Can anyone tell me approximately me how long it will take for my husband to be allowed to live and WORK in Canada after we submit the paperwork if we (or he) wait in the us for the papers to come?

thank you so much for any help you can provide!

Well he can actually come with you to Canada right away. They will give your husband a Visitor Record good for probably a year so that he can apply for PR. They are pretty good about that.

HOWEVER, unless he finds a job, in which the company is willing to get him a work visa he will not be able to work. BUT on a higher note, he should have PR within about 6 months or so.

Canada side is a lot faster than the USA

Cheers

thanks for answering to my posting so fast!

We will be applying from ths US. We don´t want him to be without a work permit for any longer than he has too. (i went through it with the US immigration!)

I was just wondering if he could work right away when he gets his visa to come to canada with me. If not, do you know how long it would take to get the work permit once he is admitted to Canada?

Bring my husband to Canada (in reply to: bring my husband to canada from the us)
Hello,
I met my fianc? four years ago. I got pregnant in the same year and since then we have been together when he is in Canada as temporally worker. He is from Mexico and his country has a different set of rules from Mexico workers, he is here every summer for 5 months and has been coming since 1999. Now he wants to stay here in Canada with us and we do not know what choice is better. If he comes as a tourist and we get married here or if I should go Mexico and married him there. If I married him in Mexico can I come back with him as his wife from Mexico to the Toronto immigration officer, can he get into Canada in this way?
I should also mention that our son is not registered under his name, so legally is not his son yet. Have a son together can help or not since he was a temporally worker when I got pregnant? He did something illegal having a baby here in Canada under his status.
Thank you so much for your help,
Jena
P.D. I am going to be a Canadian Citizenship in December.

start with www.cic.gc.ca under the family class section and get some basic info on how this all works.

bringing a unsponsored spouse across the border is almost impossible because immigration staff will not believe for a second that he will go home if the sponsorship process is unsuccessful.

You need to be in Canada to sponsor him. What I would do... marry him, have him stay in the US while the process is being done, Apply as outland sponsorship. You can visit him during that time.

If the kids are yours, and you are residents of Canada - I don´t believe it matters if he is the father or not in terms of immigration.

Sponsorship application (Permanent Residence) and Temporary Resident Visa (TRV aka visitor visa) are different. You should think long and hard if you want to be in Canada as a visitor to wait out the process because you can´t work and your spouse has to support you and your daughter for however long the application will take to finalize. It takes anywhere 6 to 13 months to process a PR application.

I am a Canadian citizen. earlier this year I married my Husband who is an American citizen. I want to move back to Vancouver since I have my daughter there with my X. I was wondering if i will be able to apply for my Husbands PR there (in Canada) and if he would be able to stay in Canada (visitor) while his applications are in pending status. I do not mind supporting my husband since he is my husband and He has done the same for me for my greencard. Any thoughts? I have already downloaded and filled out the PR status forms... Now I am just confused because currently I am unemployed. I really do not want any separations at all for anytime period :P.

Please respond if you know anything about if he can stay in Canada as a visitor while his paper work is pending. no matter what the time frame.

do not be tempted to file an inland application - they take forever and there is no appeal. Even if he is sitting beside you in Vancouver - file Outland.
