Subject: Moving your car
I´d like to know if there is anything special you need to take care of, regarding the car you are intending to move with you while landing (besides keeping the title and plates being current).

In other words, what kinda stuff is required by the officer at the station regarding the car you are taking with you.

Thanks.

Thanks Uniden, but I´m a bit confused about few things listed out in the items to do, and these are:

The U.S Customs part, where it says we need to submit certain documentation 72 hours prior to the import...and that the vehicle must be presented to the U.S customs, now where does all of that happen?

Arrange insurance on the vehicle, now is that a canadian insurance? if yes, how do we get that being in the U.S prior to the landing.

"Find out about any additional provincial or territorial requirements, such as safety inspections and emissions tests." Where do we get these? the State I reside at, doesn´t require to put such lables on the windshield, however that tests was not a requirement for me since the vehicle I purchased stayed in the same State I reside in.

Also is there a difference in procedure if you are driving your car to canada at landing or carrying it on carriage with Uhaul VS importing the car later after landing by a certain mover?

Am really looking forward to your thoughts and help on this. Appreciate all your help and time.

Thanks.

The first one means that you cannot just export your US car by doing just the paperwork, without the car being there with you. The car has to physically be there for inspection by US Customs. Where? US/Canada border, US Customs on US side of border.

Vehicle must be insured at time of export. If you have US insurance on the car you are ok. Once on the Canadian side, within weeks you will have to get Canadian car insurance.

First, there is the federal inspection that you need to go through once you arrive in Canada. When you settle in a province in Canada, each province may also have requirements as to additional inspections or tests that your vehicle needs to undergo. None of these are done in the US.

When you make plans regarding your car, try to separate your plans into things to do on the US side, and things to do after landing, on the Canadian side. Make sure you do not mix the two. I see that this is part of your confusion. Dissect what you read very carefully, you will see that it actually makes sense.

I did not go through the car exporting process myself. I am planning ahead, studying the very same websites I gave you to study. I don´t even have my PR visa yet.. Wish me luck! :)

Good Luck!
