Subject: Facing a problem in Moving goods + car. Need Help!
Hello all, am planning for the one-way move from u.s to canada but am stuck in a situation where i cannot tow my minivan with the uhaul truck as per their requirement it´s exceeding the carrier´s max load limit, so would need to ship the car and drive the truck myself.

Now I really need some input regarding if I decide to ship the car, can that only happen AFTER you land? or could you ship your car before you land? In both cases what´s the procedure to do that? I mean what do I have to provide to the border authorities and what needs to be given to the shipper as for paperwork and all. I´m very confused about arranging this out and any help suggestion would be greatly appreciated in this regard.

I wonder if someone has shipped the car through one of the shippers could possibly give me a better explanation regarding the how the whole process works.

P.S: my work visa on the passport has expired and wasn´t re-stamped till the total duration of work-visa limit of 6 yrs. This was due to the long processing times involved, so coming back to U.S is not an option for me. Thought I´d let you know, otherwise I could definitely do this via 2 moves.

Looking forward to your help/suggestions on this.

Shipping your car will take 1 to 2 weeks, you should talk to your transporter.
here´s the link for a trusted auto movers, they are based in San Diego CA:

http://aa-auto.com/

for your questions regarding the importation of your car, you can check www.riv.ca and http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/export/export_docs/motor_vehicle.xml

use USPS to send some of your stuff. much cheaper than fedex and ups.

Thanks, but the problem is the bigger stuff like bedroom furniture and couch etc for which a bigger truck must need to be rented and when that happens, sending small stuff seperately doesn´t make sense.

I´d still wana know if one can transport the car via auto transporter Before landing? if so, what needs to be done in this case?. The reason I´m asking is that if you do this after you land and due to some small reason the border authorities won´t let the car through, that would make things really difficult for me.

Still need some advise on this.

I have stored my household goods in Bangor, Maine and need to move them to St. John, NB, Canada along with towing my truck. What USA and Canadian documentation do I need to do this. I have a passport already and have been stamped for a six month period of time.
