My husband is Canadian, I´m Japanese and we are currently living Canada. We are trying to immigrate: Family Class Immigration and Sponsorship and Immigration from Within Canada.
Here´s my questions.
In the guide we got, it says that we need birth certificates for both of us. My husband can get it easily but I´m Japanese and I´m not sure what to do. It´s because there´s about 3 papers I can think of that shows who I am and where I was born. Touhon, Syouhon and Huhyou.
Touhon, has whole family member´s informations.
Syouhon, has only my information.
Hyouhon, I´m not sure what it is.
I´m not sure which one I´ll need?
Also, I´m not sure if Touhon is supposed to have my husband´s informations since he´s not Japanese?(My father´s Touhon shows himself, mother, myself and my brother) Syouhon has brief information about my husband such as his birth date, citizenship but not all of his informations such as his parents, the address he was born.
When I went to Family Registry in Japan, I asked them to bring me everything about my birth certificate and I got 2 papers. One of them says Huhyou and another one, has all of my information.
As soon as I know which one I´ll need, I can go to consulate or embassy of Japan in Canada to translate it.
Also, I´m not so sure about Police Certificate. I obtained mine in Japan and not sure if we both need to get it in Canada as well?

Hi Cece,
If you have lived in Canada for more than six months, you need to get Police Certificate here too. But I do not know much about it, eg. by when. Could anyone advise?
Basically either Touhon or Shouhon works.
With Touhon you can have both birth certificate and marrige certificate issued in English at Japanese Embassy in Ottawa or the Japanese Consulate General in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver. Fee: $13 for each certificate.
You would need to go and apply in person with your passport and your husband´s ID, either birth certificate or driver´s license, and touhon & shouhon (just in case - if you have one) for sure. But to get any kind of certificates there Touhon / Shouhon must be no more than three months old.
I myself filed an application for PR as "single" skilled worker and I did not have the part of marrige certificate, which I just got from some sources including our embassy´s website. So please be sure to doublecheck with one of the Japanese Consulate General near you.

Sorry..
For marriage certificate only Touhon / Shouhon must be no more than three months old.

Thanks for the reply.
I phoned the Japanese consulate in Canada and they said that they can translate the Touhon / Shouhon even they are expired. Will it be still valid? I wonder...

Consulate told me that if the guide of immigration says birth certificate, I need to bring Touhon, 1 copy of Touhon, my passpot, $13 and form for ordering translation.
But she said she´s not sure about if I need Touhon or Shouhon...since she doesn´t work for immigration office. It´s not a marriage certificate that I´m trying to obtain so it´s allright.
But if it´s the Touhon I need in order to apply PR by Family Class, I´m not sure how I´m going to get it since I asked the Family Registry to bring me everything about my Koseki(citizenship?) and she brought me only 2 forms, Syouhon and Huhyou.
Unless this Shouhon is really Touhon without me knowing it.
If the consulate worker doesn´t know if it´s the Touhon that she needs, how am I going to know if she know that this is Touhon or Shouhon? I don´t even know since these forms doesn´t say if it´s Touhon or Shouhon!
There´s too much things that I don´t understand...I´m not sure what to do. I guess I could try calling Immigration office in the morning tomorrow and see what I can do...

It says about the birth certificate:
For Japan: A certified official copy of and one translation of your ?Koseki Tohon.? All names in the
Family Register, even the ones that have been removed due to death, marriage, change of
residence, etc., must be included. The translation should be done by a certified translator.
So I need Touhon just like the consulate lady said. But I´m not sure if the form I have is Shouhon or Touhon anymore. I hope it is Touhon so I may be able to translate it.
