  Hi All,

Quick questions?.
I am in the US, on a H1B, I?ve applied for a PR?my application. Dates are ....Applied Nov 2005, AOR Feb 2006, File transferred to LA: 8 March, 2007.I understand I have to go through few more process. I?m just trying to keep myself well informed ahead.

1. After sending in the passport what becomes of my Indian passport?

2. If called for an interview is it only for the primary applicant or even the dependants are called?

3. Do we or did we have an option of applying for dual citizenship (Canada & India)?

4. Once we get our final docs from the Canadian office, how many days do we have to leave US?

5. Can we return back into the US? If yes, for how long can we be in the US until we return to Canada?

6. Can we return after few days in Canada and work for the current US employer, if yes, Should a new H1B be filled in? my1st.
HIB will expire in Sept.2007. or is it altogether a different process since we would be Canadians? And is it a must or optional to inform my employer before the PR is been issued?

7. Is Ottawa the only port of entry for all?

8. We plan to take the road to Ottawa (if that is the only port of entry) from Des Monies ? Iowa. Any suggestions & we have a Honda Accord 2006 should we travel by rental or by own?

9. What documents are required, if we take our own or rental car? Along with a few stuff (clothes) just to cross and come back?

10. What happens to the I-94?

11. What needs to be done if we take the road and return by Air? We plan to go to B.C Vancouver since we have relatives there?

12. Is it advisable or does it make a difference to land with all our stuff at one time or can we do the goods to follow after a quick visit? Where& whom should we notify and what documents are needed if we want our goods to come in later?

13. What documents & forms are needed before and at the border when we bring in all our goods and where can we get these forms?

14. Is there any fee that needs to be paid at the border? If yes, in what form and how much?

15. Are we taxed for the goods that we bring in?

16. The amount to sustain ourselves in Canada, in what form is it advisable to take? Also should or are we supposed to declare it to anyone/anywhere?

17. Do we need to change anything or get approved for our car (Honda-Accord EX 2006) before or after we arrive in Canada?

18. Once you get your PR are we eligible to work in the US, like a temporary or holiday working visa unlike the H1B etc?

I am answering some of your questions below.
Regards

Quick questions?.
I am in the US, on a H1B, I?ve applied for a PR?my application. Dates are ....Applied Nov 2005, AOR Feb 2006, File transferred to LA: 8 March, 2007.I understand I have to go through few more process. I?m just trying to keep myself well informed ahead.

1. After sending in the passport what becomes of my Indian passport?

Becomes an Indian Passport with an Immigrant visa in it.

2. If called for an interview is it only for the primary applicant or even the dependants are called?

Either or

3. Do we or did we have an option of applying for dual citizenship (Canada & India)?

You are going to become a Permanent resident NOT a Canadian citizen, there are two different things.

4. Once we get our final docs from the Canadian office, how many days do we have to leave US?

Depending on the day that you visa expires. Recommendation.... leave the US BEFORE EXPIRES

5. Can we return back into the US? If yes, for how long can we be in the US until we return to Canada?

Your return is a discretion of the US officers at the port of entry and you have to be in Canada 3 out of 5 years to meet the residency requeriments.

6. Can we return after few days in Canada and work for the current US employer, if yes, Should a new H1B be filled in? my1st.

Don´t know

HIB will expire in Sept.2007. or is it altogether a different process since we would be Canadians? And is it a must or optional to inform my employer before the PR is been issued?

You WON´T BE A CANADIAN you will be a permanent resident, you may apply for Canadian citizenship after you acumulate 3 years or more of residency in Canada.

7. Is Ottawa the only port of entry for all?
Are you serious?
Canadian border is the largest border in the world, you may land in any Canadian port except Quebec.

8. We plan to take the road to Ottawa (if that is the only port of entry) from Des Monies ? Iowa. Any suggestions & we have a Honda Accord 2006 should we travel by rental or by own?

What ever is cheaper for you, you are planning to go back to US anyway.

9. What documents are required, if we take our own or rental car? Along with a few stuff (clothes) just to cross and come back?

Passport, visa, proof of founds, CORP and Customs declaration.

10. What happens to the I-94?
If you are visiting you have to hand it to the Canadian officer at the port of entry but in your case, You should call the INS or US dpt of Homeland Security and find out.

11. What needs to be done if we take the road and return by Air? We plan to go to B.C Vancouver since we have relatives there?

Contact the airline and purchase a ticket.

12. Is it advisable or does it make a difference to land with all our stuff at one time or can we do the goods to follow after a quick visit? Where& whom should we notify and what documents are needed if we want our goods to come in later?

Fill your customs declaration, you may bring your goods with you or declare them and advice the CBSA officer that there are things are arriving later. It has to be in your customs declaration though, you may download it from the Canadian revenue agency website.

13. What documents & forms are needed before and at the border when we bring in all our goods and where can we get these forms?

we bring in?

More likely NO

16. The amount to sustain ourselves in Canada, in what form is it advisable to take? Also should or are we supposed to declare it to anyone/anywhere?
