Subject: My PR landing experience
Some of active members may be knowing - I had planned to complete my PR formalities last week. I took flight to Toronto from USA to complete PR formalities. In the flight - they gave me custom declaration form to fill this up, you need one card per family. I landed to the airport and reached to CBSA agent, he greeted me and advised me to follow arrow sign and stand in the immigration line. I stood in the line for an hour and then one lady came and advised me to take seat and wait for agent to call you name. Finally after 2 hrs of wait, my name has been called and went to the agent. He gave me warm welcome and talked about where your PR card should arrive. I believe - he was expecting small size photos, so advised photographer to take another photos at the airport and they did it in a min without any cost. He asked my about fund and I said I have enough fund to settle down and he wrote the same in COPR but didn´t ask me any proof. Finally he said welcome to Canada and advised me to follow the arrow. In next step, I have been greeted again and they gave me bunch of documents and SIN from there. I went straight to custom office... the guy was cool and asked some question and helped me getting stamped on Goods to follow list. I liked the warm welcome and courtesy. I went straight to Hertz rental and drove to the place where I am supposed to stay. Next day morning - I went to Human Resource office, applied for SIN card and since system is changed so they have issued SIN immediately. He advise me to apply for Health card, I went to health services office but since I didn´t had enough paper, so couldn´t do the same. Next day I went to Niagara falls to have some relax time. I opened bank account as well. I met couple of folks in Canada - some moved from US to Canada with white-collar jobs, some came with the expectation of white collars jobs but doing gray collars jobs, some moved from Asian country and struggled a lot and now settled. I am having very mixed thought now and came to the conclusion. If you have done your homework and your expectations are realistic then you would be satisfied. Taxes and other stuff are not a big consideration, Canada services are professionals but it´s not perfect, still you will find personal and professionalism are mixed unlike US. Peoples are friendly.. you will find lots of Asian..
Finally I came back to US with realistic expectations and I learnt - bottom line - if you are in white-collar job and planned to migrate to Canada - pls. consider couple of time hardship before migrating without a job else you will have real hard time. Some of my well wishers advised same - if you have job then this country is right for you and you will have real fun. Crime rate is low and you will find people with smiling face.

Since I didn´t have US visa however I had approved H1B extension, so had to wait for extra 15 Mins at Toronto border and they revalidated my visa and gave me new I-94.

It was overall great experience and now I am working on in depth details and if I would be successful in getting job in hand before I go there for good then I would certainly consider to be a part of Canada else I don´t want to go thru some hardship just to stay in Canada.

You just need new apporved I797, passport having old expired visa and old I-94 and they will do everything for you. You don´t need to do anything prior to re-entry to USA.

"if I would be successful in getting job in hand before I go there for good then I would certainly consider to be a part of Canada else I don?t want to go thru some hardship just to stay in Canada."

dissapointing attitude. It is tough to learn how to swim if you refuse to get in the water.

Sharon, I would consider more realistic approach than dissapointing attitude. Being in service sector and good life style here in US and in my native country..I don´t want my family to struggle just to stay in Canada.. I do appreciate Canada and I love to be the part of such a beautiful country.. I just wanted everybody to know..if you have job..it would be heaven else be aware of some hardship...
