Subject: 67 points enough?
Hi all, I just did an online point calculator thing on one site and I got 67 points, is that enought for an immigrant visa to Canada? I mean .. I know 67 is the minnimum but do you think I will actually be approved for an immigrant visa with only 67 points? Do the immigration officers cut down on points even if you deserve them?
... just wondering if I should bother to apply at all.
Also, I am not a native English speaker but I have lived in the US for 5 years and I have graduated from an US university, so do you tink I will be awarded the max points for English?

would really appreciate a reply
thanks

the only way to insure full marks for language is to do IELTS test.

No this is not the only way .... if you are a native of either English or French then you don´t need to do the test.

I am not an English-native but worked in the US for 4 years and got a PhD in UK so I did not include a test for it but lucky me :) I am French-native speaker so I used that as my first language and did not take a test.

I may sound silly to say that ... just wanted to say that it is not the only way to get full marks for language

if full marks for language is your make or break to 67 points, and you are not from an english speaking country -I would strongly suggest you are taking a HUGE risk in relying on an Immigration Officer awarding you fill points for language. The only way you can be sure is to supply a test score.

If you are at 85 points you then have the luxury to be awarded less- fine, don´t take the test. CBV-our friend is not native french or english speaking, Your personal scenario is not applicable.

Ok
So if I take the test, what score do I have to get for 16 points? Is it relativelly easy to score that high taking into consideration that I am fluent in English and I have lived/studied in the US for about 5 years?

what I meant by my comments is that taking IELTS test is not the ONLY way as you claimed.

Rest is true, it is best not to take risk. Agreed with your statement

Anonymous ?

Rules say in bold letters in the instructions that taking test is the best way to prove your language proficiency, if you are fluent in English as you claim then it should be no problem. Better do it! (I didn´t because I am a native French so I did not bother).

I believe it is 7.5 across the board to get full points. the best way to know is to take the test. if your score is lower...don´t submit it. study and do it again.

you don´t have too many options.

Thanks for your replies guys
I scored in the 99 percentile on the GMAT I wish I could submit that.
What is the test like anyways? I was just wondering about the difficulty level. I studied about 4 months for the GMAT and spent about $1,000 on all the prep, I hope I don´t have to spend that much time on this test

You cannot study IELTS like you study history. You can only familiarize yourself with their test process,i.e.,the things they´ll ask you to do. It´s an aptitude test of your accumulated knowledge and experience in the use of English (speaking, listening, reading and writing)in all settings (home, office, social etc.)If you´ve been truly using proper English in the past and present, flying through the test with high scores should be a breeze.
