I´m just curious how you´re adjusting, especially in comparison to prior life in the States. Any regrets?

For me, most things are great but some things are unexpectedly shocking. Particularly, the cost of goods and services - seems like everything´s 50-100% higher. There goes my savings!

hmmm why did you immigrate to Canada from the states? The states are def. the best place to live, and canada is second :)

If you´re an immigrant to the U.S. from a third world country, I can definitely see your reasoning. The material wealth in the states is overwhelming, and just too good to pass up. Yummm.

Those coming from the states to Canada see other more deeper reasons, however.

ok so what are these deeper reasons? and Canada is wealthy also, it is not about the wealth. But, the US is just the center of everything and it is the place to be. So money-wise how much more wealthier is US compared to Canada?

Life is more than just the material wealth. The moment you are dead you are like just another monkey, mouse or rat! You are prone to get worms in you!!
Morality is the precious gift of God which the US is poorest in!! I agree with Richard, to most who immigrate to the US from third world countries, what Anonymous feels is right.
I feel the welcoming nature of Canada is applealing to many if not most to immigrate there.
If you think being superpower is everything, wake up!! Mesopotamia and India were the superpowers of Trade and Commerce and Education and you name it...many centuries ago. Someday someone will talk about US the same way...
BTW I am not a US hater but a realty seeker and not sick to be in denial!

I guess you must be a US citizen to say that US is the best place to live!! REALLY!

I am yet to see another country that offers you the equivalent of "H4" visa, this lovely dependent visa that does not allow you to do anything except staying with your spouse doing nothing!!!!! In some states you cannot even drive because you don´t have Social Security Number!

I recently met a couple who lived next door to me and who had moved from Canada to US(!!!). Husband was on H1-B and the wife who was working in Canada ended up with a H4 visa. When she realised how "stuck" she was in US because of her visa she threatened her husband for divorce if they were not leaving US within a year. Happy ending: they left.

For temporary resident who can´t get green cards or waiting for it, I would classify US as the worst country ever. I have other numerous examples and horror stories ... Canada is just not like that and that is what it makes it so attractive to others!

I came to the US from a so called third world country and lived there for 5 years...
I chose to leave the US because I hated the life there.
Life is not isolation from family and friends and being bullied while boasting to live in the first country.

To me:
life is security; which I hadnt found in the US
Life is morality; which the US doesnt have
Life is humanity; ofcourse US is the fourth world in this
Life is peace; there is none in US
Life is politeness; never found it there
Life is humbleness; forgot what it meant during stay there
Life is with family; Individualism is the new family in US
Life is respect; US respects none
Life is courtesy; US knows none
Life is sincerely; didnt find it there
Life is beauty; its an Animal Kingdom in US
Life is dignity; find me some please
My life is private to me...huh! Ask GWB...its NOT!!

I can go on and on and on forever... you name a sane thing and US needs it.

Canada is not perfect, but Brand me whatever!! says it very well from my perspective.

I can never understand why someone would not consider it paid slavery to bring themselves to the US on an HB visa so they could give strangers the best working years of their life only to be tossed aside at the end.

Life is more than money. Yes Canada is expensive for some things - not everything.

I wouldnt mind paying extra if I get the dignity I deserve and yes, I will never be a slave of the US for anything in this world. Canada is my place.

Thnaks all, very interesting responses from everyone and agree with majority. I´m glad I asked, as it makes me feel I´m not the only one moving North for these same reasons. Good discussion.

us citizen immigrants (in reply to: Any recent U.S. citizen immigrants?)
I would like to tell you that being a US citizen isn´t all that its cracked up to be. How can one be proud to say they are a super power when they have the same problems that everyone else has. The US has poverty just like everyone else. The US has an imagine of being the ones to make the decisions and wanting everyone else to follow. The worst thing is that when that image is portrayed as a whole country, it doesn´t exclude the individual people who are not. The people of the US have to go by what the government says whether we like their decision or not, just like all other countries. Like all other countries it is the few elite people who can make a country a good place or a bad place to live.
