"your original post sounded like complaint - even if it was not intended that way.
If your child needs a pediatrician your family doctor will refer you. You can also request one - but in all truthfulness, your General practitioner is more than able to do the job.

Sharon: what you said is correct. However the healthcare system in Canada is no difference from the one in US. It is only the titles and names (plus of course the private greedy system there). So, either you are not familiar with US healthcare system or In Toronto does not understand the Canada system.
The Pediatrician in US system is also a GP Pediatrician who is equal to our Cnd family practitioner. GP Pediatrics in US is not a refined specialist in Pediatrics, but he/she is a GP with Children interest. he/she works to filter and treat the simple cases with no need for serious hospital admission. The same thing is done here by the family practioner. In both system the serious cases are refferred to the specialist in the children hospital. The outcome and routes are the same. But if there are longer visits or proceedures in US side it is meant to gain money from insurance , not always for any other interest.
Hope this helps.
