Subject: Canadian driving license
Does anyone know if you can exchange you US driving license to a Canadian one once you start living in Canada ?

Or do you have to take the road test and theory test ?

Thanks

Yes you can.
U.S.A., Japan, Korea, Switzerland, Germany, France, Great Britain, Austria and Belgium DO NOT NEED to do a road test in order to obtain a Canadian driver license.

And make sure you get a class G licence (best level), which you´re entitled to without exam (with good previous driving record) upon exchanging your U.S. state´s license. This is important to get the lowest auto insurance rates.

However, note that there are a few states that do not share their drivers record databases with Canada. That was my case coming from Illinois. In those situations, you must bring hardcopy proof of your good driving record with you from your secretary of state (or DMV) office before going to Canada to exchange. In my case, these states were listed on the Ontario licence exchange information website.

Thanks for your answers. Those are very useful info. I have a Georgia license. I guess it is good to take a copy of good driving records.

Point noted for G license I did not know about it. THANKS!
