Work permit for my wife

Subject: Work permit for my wife
OK, so here is my situation. I am a Canadian who recently married an American girl. I am going to sponsor her application for permanent residency. We are both young professionals and it makes financial sense for her to remain in the States (at her current job) until she is eligible to work in Canada. Do we really have to wait until the application is complete and accepted for her to work here? From what I understand, she could apply for a work permit if she was given an offer from a company in Canada. This might prove difficult as she is yet to finish her BSc.

Are there any other ways to get her working sooner? Does anyone know if she is eligible to apply for an "open work permit" as part of her application for perm residence or is this only for "in country" applications? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

It only takes about 6 months to a year for outside spousal applications. Either you apply that way and wait (there is no open work permit for outside applications), or she goes to Canada now, waits longer - 8-9 months - and can then work with an open work permit until she gets PR about 8 months after that.

Has she tried bunac.org ?

thanks for the suggestion (in reply to: Work permit for my wife)
Looks like we might just have to suck it up and wait for the perm residence to get approved. Thanks for the suggestion about bunac...I will definitely look into it.

Thanks again!
