Subject: Work permits
  Hi all,

Just hopeing someone can clear up some questions for us?

We are in the first "enquiry" stages of immigration to Canada from the UK. We intended originally to simply apply for residency and go from there, but this would be dependant on securing a job first as we are 3 points short at present to apply under the skilled worker class.

We were then informed we could go over on work permits and then apply for residency once working in Canada. Heres where we are confused:

1) A laywer has told us my fiance (a forklift truck driver) would be able to obtain a work permit more easyly that I could, and I would have an open work permit.

2) However a FLT driver is not NOC accredited and therfore not good enough for residency application.

3) I work as a Laser Engineer ("other engineer" according to the NOC list) and have a BSc in Physics so I would hence be the main residency applicant.

4) It also would make more financial sence that I obtained the specific work permit as my job search would be more difficult than my fiances, and in theory i would be earning more. If therefore he struggels to find employment straight away my salary alone will support us.

5) If therefore I obtain a job offer, can we then appply for residency straight away? as we are only 3 points short, the employment offer would take us well over the required 67 points? Or is it different if we apply from Canada whilst there on work permits.

6)Also if I take up a position in a different field to Laser Engineering how will the points be affected? I have 1 years experience in this area, if I was to take up a job in a completly different NOC listed feild, can my experience be added together, or must the years count start from scratch?

Any information will be greatly apreciated!
Cheers!

Your correct.

I´ll have my assistant Jane search to see if your occupation is on a shortage list. It would be better to go to what ever province you can get into then apply to switch employers after already working in Canada.

Once your in on your WP if you obtain an offer of full time employment I suggest you apply as a PNP SW applicant processing times around 6-8 months.
