Subject: Importation duty costs... vehicles, furniture??
Ok I´ve been worrying about this for a while.

I´m an american seeking canadian permanent residency [IN canada Spousal Sponsorship]. I know when I finally do receive PR and I move all my stuff up how much duty will I have to pay?

I know I will have to pay duty on my truck, if I keep it, but how much? It´s probably only worth $5000-6000 right now. Plus I will have furniture etc... Is it actually worth me paying duty on this stuff or selling it all before being required to declare it and buying new in Canada?

I have heard rumors of having to pay like $2500 duty to import your car and I´d rather not deal with that a buy a new one...

Anyone know?

When you land in Canada as PR you have to declair all the items you are bringing with you and any items you plan to bring in future (Goods to follow list) along with the estimated value of each item. You will not have to pay any duty on these items.

As far as getting your car in Canada please check the link
