Hi, I entered Canada by car (not mine, my Canadian friends) in January. I have been staying with a friend, and now need to go back to the US, but need a passport now with the new law. I know I need to go to the nearest US consulate, but what do I need to take, and will I have any problems? I will be flying back home so will need the passport. Then, how soon can I come back if I want to? Thanks for any help.

Should I assume your an American citizen? Contacting the consular section of the Consulate in Toronto would get you plenty of answers. Go to the web site or listen to the voice mail and it is all there.
If your not a US citizen and require a visa of some type to enter the US it will be far more difficult to obtain because you have not established yourself here.
Wish you the best.

(in reply to: Roy, please help! Need advice on passport) Yes I am an American citizen. I have my birth certificate, drivers license, social security card. Just need the passport so I can go home! It said something on the US consulate website that I need proof that I can be in Canada, but I´ve only been here a few months. Do you know the website for Toronto? I believe Calgary would be the closest to me. Is there anything else I should know?
