Subject: Question about medical exam
  hello everyone

i am from the US and thinking of applying for the live in caregiver program to work and live in Canada.
i know you need to have a medical exam. I was wondering if people can explain to me exactly what is involved with the medical exam?

Do they make you give medical records? Or is it just like a physical exam? What is exactly involed? thanks

I know of medical exams for visa purposes where you are checked for any evidence of T.B., syphilis, and HIV. Other than that the doctor would ask you certain questions. You will also be required to do blood and urine test. A full physical exam is also performed. If there is any abnormality in your medical report they will ask you to do further tests.

CIC will send you medical exam forms when it is required. There are designated physicians (I believe in all countries), to who you go and it is taken care of. Dont worry thinking what tests you should take. Its a standard procedure followed by all designated Physicians and they know what to do once you take the forms to them.

Good luck!

They asked me to read the letters of a chart using my glasses, took blood (to test for HIV I think), took blood pressure, took x-rays of my chest, a doctor examined me (test heart, lungs) and to see if I had scars from surgery, asked me to bend over to test for things like severe arthritis, etc. They also have you fill out form to write down any medical conditions you have and any drugs you are taking and for what condition, etc. Certain conditions which would require extensive expenses on the part of the government medical system could be red flags. They also checked my hearing.

You might ask them exactly what they are going to do before the exam to put you more at ease. The exam isn´t really that extensive and they seem to want to pass you. If there is a problem they might have you consult with your family physician or some other doctor for another exam or test. Good luck. It´s over pretty quick.
