Subject: Submission format
Hey all. I am getting ready to send in my joint application for Sponsorship (I´m a Canadian) and Permanent residence (for my American wife), and I was just wondering about what format I should use. I was thinking of just using one binder tabbed as per the document checklists. I would seperate the Sponsorship and Perm residence application by a divider of some sort. Is this ok or should I use a seperate binder for the sponsorship and perm residence applications? Also, do they like a cover letter and proof of fee payment up in the front? Thanks for the help.

Hi Dan,

If you check in the guide it will tell you not to put it in a binder or anything even remotely like a binder. No staples....All of the details are in the guide. I did a quick search and could not find it. It seems strange but to put it all your papers loose in a big envelope is a bit scarey....So, look up that bit of info. I have heard that they take applications, a drill their own holes and put applicaitons into their own internal binder. That is just what I read. I have heard that they will send it back if you send it like that. If I find the reference I will let you know...I think that the most important things are the document checklists that you can include....like a table of contents. A cover letter wouldn´t hurt either and they do request proof of payment. We did it over the internet and were able to print off a receipt and include that. It is number 5 on the document checklist. I did include coloured paper in between each section and wrote the section number and my partner´s name on the top page of each paper. Read the guide a few times....I swear that the information changes....Hope that this information helps....I do know that the US likes your applications bound up in clips and or binders....but Canada likes it loose when it arrives in Mississauga. Good Luck. We are at the end of our visa. Just waiting for the passports to come back. If this is an outside application then include the medical receipt and the police check. That will move it along faster.

Thanks for the info, I will take a look at the guide. We are actually just waiting for her police clearances to show up so we can include them. Any ideas what the waiting times are like these days for the whole process - Mississauga through to approval from Buffalo? Thanks again. Like I said, I will look at the guide, but if you find that info let me know. Thanks so much and good luck with you application!

This is a link to a group that are all about sponsoring spouses....

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/canadian_immigration/

You might also get good advice on this topic there.

This is also a tracking website....

http://www.trackitt.com/canada-immigration-trackers/family-class/

You can filter it to see how applications are moving through Buffalo.

Put up your own details too as it helps others coming behind you see how the applications are moving through Buffalo.

I have heard that the Mississauga bit is 30-40 days and then the Buffalo bit 4-6 months.

Everything application is unique. This that need to be checked like kids from a previous marriage etc can be an example of what might slow you down...

I still haven´t found the bit about how to bundle up for stuff. You could ask about that on the first link that I gave you(above). Lots of people on there have lots of opinions. I have been asked this before and for some reason I can not find the bit about no binders or anything like that....

Haha..you are right, every time I look at that stuff I can´t find what I´m actually looking for. I might give the toll free call center a call to see what they want. Thanks again.

Yes, call them....on 3 different days and try to get the "average" answer....I know that I had my sister call to find out how to gather up the bits and she was told that just put it in an envelope, loose and that should be fine. As the CIC what page that is on...also...we sent ours off in November 2006. Things could have changed?
