Subject: What's the future of Canadian Economy
I am working on trying to research on internet , on how prospective will be Canada in future. Many economist talk about China & India will be economic super power in next 20 years & US will no longer be No 1.

Has anyone studied where will Canada stand in future & how prospective will be the lives of skilled young people migrating to Canada.

Well ,as per current conditions Canada definately is a great country to move so everyone is in line to get in.

will the economy eventually slow down? History would suggest yes. Will the US economy eventually slow down - yes to that question as well. It is called economic cycles.

With China and India becoming ´super powers´... will that change Canada´s reputation as one of the great places in the world to live, work and raise a family- I highly doubt it.

Canada is blessed with abundant natural resources like precious metals, crude oil from tar sands, water for hydroelectricity & fertile land for agriculture. What have China & India got? Their factories depend on massive importation of raw materials. Canada will lose some low-end manufacturing jobs but overall, its prospects for young people seeking a higher quality of life free from pollution are much, much better than over-crowded China & India.

It amazes me to read comments from people who have never visited India or China!!

Almost 80% of the goods in any Western country come from China. Computers, Electronics, Consumer goods, Clothing, Toys, and the list continues...

It should not be forgotten that UK stole almost 300 trillion Pounds worth of everything from India in their 200 years of continuous abuse of the country. India could BUY OUT more than half of the world, including all the Western countries if those resources had remained in India.

Only having natural resources will not do too good. The Middle East is virtually the ONLY region with Oil but without brains it is being drained and will be drained to the last drop!

Overcrowdedness of these countries is actually a blessing in disguise since these middle class citizens in total have greater purchasing power than the less populated countries. Guess why Canada is bringing in people!!Because more people means more money in the market!

As for losing the low-end manufacturing jobs overall, it is those jobs which generate and run the economy and not billionares of the world.

Then, if India and China become the next superpowers, the West´s strings will be pulled by these countries to a certain extent.

Let us give credit to the countries which are working hard to develop into global superpowers. Of the 180+ countries of the world only 4 are in the superpower game earlier the USSR, now the USA next are India and China.

As for Canada´s place, it is indeed a good place with a lot of diversity. With may Indians, Chinese and other Asians and others coming in at a fast rate, Canada will float with more developments and greater achievements. More busines opportunities will emerge with these countries and with mutual respect and more open trading regulations economic milestones will indeed be reached. But Canada becoming a superpower is not possible in the next few hundered years.

Current status of Asians shows that most are employed at lower levels and wasting away their talents and skills and education. This should change in Canada and the employers should respect the immigrants´ skills and give them opportunities. Otherwise, these immigrants will realize that they are being abused and a reverse migration will happen which will be very bad for the country.

New immigrants will bring with them not only their families but also a lot of skill and money and their links to their respective countries will enable them to bring potential business to Canada which will do it more good than harm.

minor correction.

there is more oil in the Canadian north than all of the Middle East - just not developed yet.

the best countries in the world are not the super powers. That status is highly over rated.

There is no disagreement over presence of resources. However, no offence intended; declaring the oil resources to be more than all of the ME could be highly over stated statement.

ever heard of the Alberta Tar Sands? The only difference is the cost of extraction... and if the price of oil continues at its current price, Canada can extract that oil and make a s*&@ load of money.

I had visited China & India not too long ago and I didn´t like what I saw there - the pollution, the disrespect for human dignity, corruption etc. These two countries will never be "super powers." Canada would do very well in future as long as it keeps its door open to talented young immigrants.

And you think the US respects human dignity? Think about Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon... I dont wanna start on this!

And I am sorry to disappoint you snow, you will melt away; your word will not be taken. The worlds economists say these are the next superpowers. Your "visiting" these future superpowers will not make you an expert on these countries!

Tom, sorry! But please read carefully. These countries, specially India; are very much independent of the US. I could believe the vice versa to be true. 80% of IT professionals of the US are Indians and Chinese. A great % of extremely successful doctors & other professionals in US and other countries are Indians.

By the time Canada and other countries start extracting their burried oil, alternative fuel cars will be common and petrol cars will be history! So, having oil might not help too much at that time.

Open your eyes people. ;)

Canada does not have more oil than entire middle east. It does have one of the largest oil reserves. The cost of extraction is relatively high in Canada than middle east at the moment which will pinch even more if oil was to become too expensive.

No country has been fair throughout the history. Canada and US both were set up by displacing the native Indians. Now, both talk about human rights.

Indian economy as Chinese is heavily (not totally) dependent on US. Sorry to offend Indians in this forum but its the truth. To say most professionals in US/Canada are Indians or Chinese does not make any difference cause people from these countries will continue to migrate to these places. You should also consider both India and China are trying to hard to control Africa, South American, and South East Asian markets so things might change for these two countries.

India and China can be economic superpower but they suffer from bad governments. China is totalitarian. India is too divided, corrupt, and also poor. I do not think these countries will be able to rule world affairs as US is doing atleast for sometime to come. By the way US economy is still much bigger than China. India is only half of China, so long way to go for both countries.

India and China both have pollution, poverty, corruption and so many other evils but saying these countries will never be superpower is wrong.

Fully agree that UK stole a lot of India´s wealth but look at Germany and Japan. In 50 years they have become one of the best countries in the world. Especially, Germany, remember lost both the wars, got divided by so called defenders of human rights.

Canada is not bringing in immigrants to get more people. It is trying to fill the gaps in workforce. Also, the reason why Asian education is not respected in Canada is cause the quality of immigrants coming to Canada is not so high. Everybody knows the quality of asian universities particulary India. Some of the engineering colleges are being run in garages. However, Indians and Chinese are both able to excel inspite of their system.

People on these forums keep on defending Canada or their own countries. This does not make much sense as first of all its difficult to believe people who immigrate are loyal to any country.Humans by nature are selfish. That is the reason why people are willing to leave their families, home, relatives, etc. to immigrate so that they can earn better livelihood. So, why argue and attack each other? just live happily.

No offense intended to anyone.
