Subject: hepatitis C
A friend of mine had hepatitis C before she immigrated to Canada. She got the necessary treatment back in Thailand and was cured. It´s been six months since she was cured and now needs to get a blood test done to make sure that she is still negative. However, all of us are wondering whether this will have a negative impact on her immigrant status? Can someone please elaborate on this situation?

First, I am sorry for your friend who has caught this virus, Hepatitis C.
Which category of immigration? if family and spouse immigration, then no problem. Under other immigration categories, I am not sure of the answer. Hope someone else can help u.

BTW: there is no cure for hepatitis C. There are some drugs that may suppress the virus activity or help the body to maintain resistance. But there is no known full recovery or cure of this virus.

Hepatitis C is manageable but there is no cure and during later years of life it can cause liver cancer and other conditions which are fatal.

Is there any way it can be proved that your friend knew about the infection and did not declare it on the medicals? If yes, then your friend may have some problems cause then your friend may be accused of misrepresentation which may result in revocation of PR status. In the medical exam a person is asked whether he or his immediate family members have had any history of hepatitis? If she said "No" then it is a misrepresentation. However, it should not be considered such a big deal as your friends condition was managed easily as you mentioned.

You don´t need to worry about it at all, all tests included are drug and sexual trsmitted disease, you don´t have to tell them you have this kind of problem if you want to immigrate to Canada
