Subject: Information on Police Clearance and Date Of Birth
  Hi All,

I am plannig to apply for canadian Immigration under Skilled worker program , Currently Working in USA,I am an Indian National.

I moved to usa 1yr ago , Before coming to usa i was in Europe(Cyprus) for 5yrs, In the www.cic.gc.ca site says, i have to get the police verification from all the countries i have stayed for more than 6months, where should i take the police clearence now? Cyprus Police or Cyprus Embassy in usa?

what is the usual process for getting police clearance if we are not from that country and we are no more staying there.

Do i need to submit the Police clearnce along with application or i can submit it at later stage?

Second Question: I don´t have date of birth certificate, Only my 10th standard has the DOB. Is it ok if i take the Affidivit for proof of Birth.

If anybody has any idea on the above , please respond.

Thanks In advance!

Thanks,
Suresh N,

1. Contact Cyprus embassy in US. If that doesnt work, follow this:

Write a letter to Cyprus Police with your information requesting a police clearance:

Non-Resident Requests
You should apply to:

Chief of Police
Police Headquarters
P.O. Box 2022
Nicosia, Cyprus

Send a self addressed envelope with the letter. You will get a response from them in about a month detailing how to pay the fees etc.

You dont HAVE to send police clearance with the application form. There is no harm if you send but you will need to send an updated clearance later anyways because Police clearances are usually valid for 3 or 6 months depending upon the country´s laws.

Your fifth question(Not second!): You must get birth cirtificate from India. CIC will not accept Xth class memo as a proof of birth.

Contact the Indian consulate in your region and ask them to issue you a date of birth certificate based on your passport.

You can also try requesting CIC to consider your date of birth as given in your passport. This works in some cases. You can attach other documents with your date of birth in them.

Update police clearances are not asked from everyone but you may be asked to provide updated ones especially FBI clearance. For immigration purposes pcc certificates older than 3 months are not considered but there are always exceptions.
