Hi there to any one who can give me an advise I will really appreciate with all my heart, my name is Juan I?m 30 years old living on the USA for about 16 years, I work as a mechanical engineer with out a degree, but with 5 years of experience, also going to school to get my degree in engineering. I was under a working permit but lost it a few years ago, so pretty much I?m illegal now, I tried to applied for a legal residency on the USA but my application was denied because according to the immigration judge my case was not strong enough to stay in the USA, now I?m tired of living like a criminal in the USA just because the immigration laws are so tough to get a work permit and even a green card, this makes me look for another place to live free of these type of problems and I have considered Canada for a new home, but I don?t know if Canadian immigration even consider my application if I?m illegal in this country, please any body have an advise, I will really appreciate so much.

Being illegal in US will not result in automatic denial of your application. You check out www.cic.gc.ca for details about various option to move to Canada.

My understanding is that if you entered the US legally, but overstayed a visa, it should not be a bar to entry to Canada. But in your situation, it would make sense to get an educated answer from a Canadian immigration attorney.
Best of luck. Illegal status sucks. But maybe you should wait a few months and see what US Congress does to allow people illegally in the US to stay. They really should do something to legalize all the people who are working and contributing to US society.

Thanks for your respond, I will wait and see what Congress decide to do about our cituation, for those who wants to email me more info you can cantac me at jmartinez3d@hotmail.com any information will help alot. I have been reserching on www.cic.gc.ca but does not mention anything about being legal in order to apply for a visa or work permit to Canada. I have been leving on the States for fifteen years and believe me it has not been easy leaving in this country illigaly and it gets worse every year, I don´t think Congress is going to have a solution for all the people that are here illigaly that´s is why I need to get going, any body wants to help me, I will appriciate in any ways.
