Subject: to hire or not to hire consultants
hello everyone, i am a taiwanese citizen born in the philippines, i recently checked with a consultant regarding immigrating to canada, the problem is 1.) they ask for a non refundable fee for a service with no guarantee, i wish to know if i really pass the assessment test first before i pay them. 2.)the waiting time is approximately 2 to 3 years depending on the delays or changes in my documents, is this correct? hope someone can help me. thank you

Go to www.cic.gc.ca ; On the left hand side, click ´to immigrate´ and take the self assessment test. If you pass the test, then you are eligible. This is the first hurdle. Next, you can download forms for skilled worker or the class you fit in, and fill them. Submit those to the CIC. It is almost as easy as I wrote this. You do not need a consultant. I did my own application and I got my Immigration. I believe, if you understant english, you can apply yourself, and for some critical, confusing issues, this form is always available to get answers. If you do not understand English/French, its no good immigrating to Canada. First learn one of these languages.

I know some of my firends hired consultants, paid huge amount and their application has either not been finalized yet or took as much time as mine.

Good luck.

Good Consultants will never guarantee anything because they are not allowed to!!!!

Wake up people theConsultant is not the decision makers!

Processing times depends on the visa post you submit in!

And almost perfect this forum is an example of many mistakes people make by doing their applications themselves. It is when applicants decide to omit things that things can go very wrong.

This person seems to have researched very little and may not have the knowledge that you have. Yes in theory anyone can fill in a simple form but come on people guarantee something when you have no control over it.

I would say since this is the biggest decision of your life spending on a consulant is peanuts. I am a masters with green card in US but still I hired a consultant as I did not want to mess up the application for few dollars. AND I did run into a few complications but my consultant did a wonderful job, besides this forum was a wonderful help. Here I must mention that in spite of the consultant I took advise from Roy for a second opinion and he extended his advise promptly without any expectations. Today I am thankful I had a consultant who knew what exactly to do and I had Roy who assured me during the process that what was happening was correct. The process is long and could be complicating - having two people besides me advising made this easy. I would say hire Roy believe me it is more than worth it.

I WOULD AGREE WITH ANON AND ROY, HIRING A CONSULTANT OR LAWYER DOES NOT COST MUCH AS YOU ARE MAKING A BIG DECISION OF YOUR LIFE. THEY DO YOUR FORMS RIGHT AND TAKE CARE OF ALL THE COMMUNICATION WITH EMBASSY AND NOTIFY YOU OF ALL THE CHANGES IN RULES AND REGULATIONS ON TIME. THEY CAN NOT GAUARANTEE AS THEY ARE FACILITATE THE APPLICATION PROCESS AND THATS IT. THEY ARE NOT THE DECISION MAKER, THEY SIMPLY PUT ALL EFFORTS TO GET A POSITIVE DECISION BY SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION IN PERFECT MANNER. GOOD LUCK

OK Guys!! Dont bang me like this! I am only sharing my own experience!

Roy, you are right... this forum does have some wrong advises... but it helped me at a very crucial time.

Anon, there are thousands of consultants who claim they can do things for you even if you dont get enough points... Many times people get duped and get nothing. These are the kind of consultants I am against hiring. Roy is an extremely rare case and I think he definitely deserves a "Thank you" note at the least by almost everyone who visited this forum. He is like a good lawyer fighting your case for free...

If you are really thankful to your consultant, why dont you recommend him as you are recommending Roy?

Many people who apply for Canada immigration are well educated and skillful but when it comes to application, they either understimate their skills or get too nervous as they are desperate. Then they hire consultants who are not worthy and lose a number of dollars and not a few!
