| Subject: Application to extend Stay in Canada |

I´m currently on a visitor visa and want to extend my stay. Hoping to extend my stay for 6 months. They state that they require a reason for staying here. Have applied for PR outside of Canada and want to stay while a decision is made, but not sure they´ll accept this reason.
What kind of reasons do they accept as grounds for extending your stay.
Thank you for your help and opinions... this forum has proved extremely helpful and thanks to everyone who offers their time to develop such a great resource.

waiting out the immigration process is not a reason to stay. what happens if CIC turns down your application - would you leave?
you need another reason totally unrelated to immigration

Delay in extension of our foreign worker's application (in reply to: Application to extend Stay in Canada)
Our foreign worker has applied for an extension (this would be his second extension). He has done the medicals, criminal clearances and paid for the application processes requred. He´s just waiting for response but the expiry of his current visa is March 15th, 2008. He tried to find out online what status of his application is but no variations of his name seem to work. Has tried to reach the CIC customer service but can´t get through. Is there a number at Vegreville office that I could talk to someone? Help!

natalie,
being honest and saying that you want to extend your stay because you are waiting for your immigration via sponsorship outcome is, in my opinion, a good reason to put. it´s worked for a lot of people i know, and some even get up to a year extension instead of the usual six months.
because you are not allowed to work, sending proof of your sponsor´s income (recent tax assessment or statement of income letter) and a statement from the sponsor that he/she is supporting you while you stay in canada. good luck!
btw, i was wondering.. what do people possibly put for a reason other than waiting for PR when they extend their visits?

Thanks for all of your responses. I´ve already applied for my extension and explained that i had applied for residency and wanted to stay while awaiting a response.I provided a return plane ticket, financial info and a letter explaining what i plan to do should i be refused my P.R. . I got a visa extension for a year. Thanks everyone for your help.
Susanna, I´m afraid i don´t know and couldn´t find a contact number for Vegreville. Maybe you could try sending a letter to to their office with "case query" written on the envelope.

my mom´s passport has been sent to delhi as for her PR status.My dad passed away and mom was alone there so i brought her herethugh visitor visa. the day she landed delhi office asked for the passport,death certificate and the fee.Everything has been sent to them but now i need my mom´s passport back as she has been told that
her medical is expired and she has t go back on 28th Nov with her return ticket.Does she wait for the passport or she has to extend her say.pleasehelp me out.
