Dear Friends,
I got my stamping and COPR at Buffalo. I had to do it now in person as the letter they sent me has a 30 days limit and I could not send by mail as I am travelling abroad next week. SO I decided to go there and get it done in person. If you reach by morning 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM on Tuesdays and Thursdays, they return the stamped passports same day between 1:30 PM and 3:00 PM. So if you decide to do stamping in person due to any reason, you can plan the same day return.
I also discovered a cheap but nice accomodation in downtown buffalo ( very near to the HSBC building , on the same MAIN street) which is Hostelling International Youth Hostel . www.hostelbuffalo.com . This place is accessible 24 hours by a security code( if you made prior reservation with them which is $23 a night for anybody, $20 for members). I reached at 1 am in the night and did not have any problem however I talked about my arrival in advance by phone and they told me the access code and also few instructions. This hostel also has full fledged kitchen to use. If you drop your passports in the morning, walk to the Greyhound bus station 1 block away and can take the day pass for busses and catch #40 bus to Niagra from the gate#15. You can see Niagra and come back. There is a hard rock cafe there near the visiot center at Niagra which could be tempting but plan to reach back to the bus station at Niagra as the bus leaves back to buffalo at 12:45 PM. This is the bus you want to catch to pick up your passports and it takes 1 hour to reach back to the downtown. If you miss this (like I did) then the next bus is at 2:25 PM which will be late and you will end up having taxi back to buffalo for $55 bucks.
Procedue is simple and same to collect your stamped passports back. GO to the HSBC center (tallest building in the downtown on Main Street) , take the excalator up to the lobby. Make sure that you have the small security card and another card given to you in the mornign with you. Security will aks yuou to stand on a carpet to form a Que. Somebody from the consulate at 30th floor will come down and take you to the consulate and that is it.
By the way , from Airport to DOwntown by taxi is 20 mins and $25 fare. There is a bus as well from downtown to the airport and if you get the day pass then $4.50 will take you everywhere. The local tram which runs on the main street is also free to ride from the THeatre stop (where the Youth hostel is 667 Main Street) to HSBC center.
1.It is totally true that same day return is possible from Buffalo for PR visa stamping work.
2. Somebody else can also drop off and collect back the passports as long as that person has an authorizing letter from you stating, the day of his arrival, your passport numbers, his name and authorization to get this work done and collect the passports back from them. Offcourse that person also will have to show his photo ID.
