I would choose Canada over Australia, although both are similar in their social systems. With global warming getting worse over time, I wouldn?t want to live in a constant drought-ridden country (Australia). Canada has the most fresh water in the world with cool climate. Want to bake in Australia? Be my guest. Water is already heavily rationed for such everyday things as bathing, car washing, etc.

Canada has gorgeous mountains, lakes, and forests. The Australian interior is one flat featureless desert. Everyone has to live on the coasts. No thanks.

Richard,

You have good points. Canada really has the highest reserve of fresh water on earth which coulkd be crucial like oil in the future. However, how they can utilize that will depend on how the run their country.

Infact I never care much about Canadian harsh cold or Aussie brisk summer as very important.

Canada is not too prosmising to me either. Apart from staying 6 months virtually form any outside activity, It´s population has to force to live only on the southern part of the country as 40% of it´s land is north of 60th Parallel. Infact, worse of all only 7% of entire Canadian land mass is suitable for agriculture (this mumber is some years ago, now even many agricultural land are being converting into residential area to support crazy immigration onslaught).

Folks who think that Canada has infinite land mass to support billion of immigrants must think this seriously.

Shah.....

You really need to do some research about Canada and it´s geography. The reason why our population is distributed as it is, is due to the pattern of exploration and where the original settlers made their homes. Three hundred years ago, the only way to travel in Canada was by canoe, on the waterways, such as the rivers and the lakes. When we built the first national railroad, from Quebec to the British Columbia coast , the route was chosen to link the existing cities, and provide a commercial transportation system.

"Seven percent of the land is agricultural " what a load of mis-information that is ............Have you ever SEEN the wide open praries of western Canada, where the grain farms are as large as 5,000 acres each ? Or the huge cattle ranches of Alberta, with thousands of cows on their ranges?

Open your eyes and see the way that Canadians live, year round. We don´t huddle inside the house in my community, we celebrate our winter time, with lots of outdoor activities. I bet you don´t know any people who were BORN in Canada, who live and play in the outdoors , year round. You need to widen your horizons, and find out about my country. Get out into the country away from the city and learn about the real Canada.

And finally, where did you get the idea that Canada has such bad winters? I work with people from the Carribbean, Africa and China, all of us work outside , year round in all kinds of weather, and we survive. Could it be that you are not suited to life in Canada ?

Not every one is.

Jim Bunting. Toronto.
