Subject: Extending stay in Canada
I´m purely thinking of my situation in 9 months time when my work visa ends. I am thinking about this now because it seems that if you want to stay in the country long term then getting in applications sooner rather than later is key!

I am wanting to know if someone has applied to have their work visa extended recently and how long it took from applying for this to receiving the extension?

I have chosen this method as getting PR will take me 30 months and I don´t feel like I really want to wait so long when I just want an extension of one year. Also I would do sponsorship but I work in oil/gas and they seem to prefer people to be contractors rather than permanent employees however I will approach them closer to the end of the year.

Also is any one here a contract worker (as in incorporated) but on a work visa because when I went for this they told me I couldnt incorporate myself because I was not Canadian, it seems completely daft to me because this is a different situation from anywhere else Ive been in the world.

You can incorporate if you have 49% of the corporation, not 50%!

Got any PR´s or CA´s friends who would assist?

The LMO will give you two years status and is not complicated. Most Oil * Gas positions are in high demand and on specialty lists which would require the employer only to post the position on the Federal Government Job Bank therefore saving costs to him/her.

R U in the Maritimes or Alberta or working way up north? Makes a huge difference.

Your on the right track but always think like you did in this posting there has to be a way around an illogical condition.
