you must be living in Canada or US on a work permit for a minumum of 1 year to transfer your file.

I believe you mentioned in your original post that you were a medical doctor? You may wish to carefully investigate your opportunities to practice medicine in Canada - it is not very encouraging.

doctor jobs (in reply to: Transfer of file to Bufaalo from India)
Hi,

I heard doctors are the most well-paid jobs in canada and usa and there is shortage of doctors in canada because they all migrate to usa for greener pastures (canada still remains greener than india). So what is not encouraging? Is clearing the canading board/residency not encouraging or what?

anyone coming to Canada with specific skills should invest serious time in determining what licensing is required and the job situation.

Yes, there is a shortage of doctors but not all training is recognized in Canada. Doctors also must be licensed. There are very few residency spots for foreign trained doctors.

Like I said - our friend has already relied on someone´s advice about how long he must wait. Now he needs to stop listening to his friend about his potential opportunities in Canada. Do some research before you arrive and find yourself doing a job that is beneath you.

Sharon,

I fully understand and agree on the license process for foreign trained medical professions. If Canada opens the door widely, there would be one million Docs tomorrow in Pearson International. It can´t be safe this way.

However, what I can not understand, is the treatment of the European qualified docs. Why can´t a doc qualified in UK, and licensed there, work in Cnd hospitals? what is the difference?

Here is what my own doctor tells me ---the College of Physicians and Surgeons have looked at many of the training and education models around the world. Some are equal to Canadian standards, some are higher and some, well... not so great. If they have deemed the schools standards as equal or greater - then there is no real problem. If they have determined things are not at the same level as Canadian standards - there is some challenges.

Language ability is the key for Dcotors (in reply to: Transfer of file to Bufaalo from India)
I´ll just add this about foreign trained medical Doctors who have problems being accredited in Canada.

Being well trained is not that much of a problem, BUT being able to communicate in English, at a Professional level is the biggest stumbling block for Immigrant Doctors.

It is not enough to " have the knowledge " the Dcotor has to be able to "speak, read and write ENGLISH " at a University graduate level, to be able to work in Canada, as a medical Doctor. Not being able to express themselves, in English to their patients, or other medical staff, is the problem.

This is not so much a problem for those who are/were trained in the UK, but it is a large problem for those who were trained in a langauge other than English, such as those from the Old Soviet Union nations, or the P_acific rim countries.

Hello, Canadian citizen

I know your ancestors immigrated to Canada hundreds of years ago. Did they try to learn the native (Indian) Cnd languages?
What you are saying is superficially making sense but I can smell something else in its depth. Also you are talking about the subject that is beyond your knowledge and skills.
In Canada, They are short of doctors and desparate in certain areas. But also the system in Canada only recognizes those who qualify in North America (USA&Canada). The very English and very IRISH doctors (like u) still have to re-start from zero and re-qualify again in Canada. If what you said is correct about the linguistic skills then I am pretty sure that all the Indian doctors, from the sub-continent, can speak English better than yours + plus their original language and more.
How many language do you speak?

The fact is: (the system is stagnant). The system need a big shake and shock. This shake is not only for the immigrants (who you possibly hate) but for the interest of Canada and the Canadians like yourself.

Generalizing that pacific rim countries have English problem is an ignorant statement. The following are the pacific rim coumtries:

Australia
Brunei
Cambodia
Canada
Chile
China
Colombia
Costa Rica
Ecuador
El Salvador
Guatemala
Honduras
Indonesia
Japan
Malaysia
Mexico
New Zealand
Nicaragua
North Korea
Panama
Papua New Guinea
Peru
Philippines
Russia
Singapore
South Korea
Taiwan
Thailand
United States of America
Vietnam

Plus, the island countries of the Pacific.

In many countries, Medical schools instruct in English. When you say "able to "speak, read and write ENGLISH", you probably mean having American accent.

Most Indians write English better than those born in English speaking countries. Yes, them and others in the region are influenced by regional languages and culture in their accent. But that does not make them criminals!!
